I often read that doing a research could help to get the residency of your choice. I always wanted to do a research, independently of this aspect, but I didn't know that it was possible without to get the title MD for eg...I mean doing the research on his own, not as an assistant.

My question is, is it realistic to begin to prepare a medical research when you are in premed?...and to start it the first year of your med program or a few months before?

I have some research experience in humanities...I think I have the epistemological skills to do a one on my own. And I have the research problematic in my mind since nearly 1 year. Plus, it would be a thesis exclusively based on statistics...it means I would not have to go very deeply in medical knowledge.

So is it possible to do this on his own, and to think that it may be published? If not, do one of the big 4 could assist me in my research? Or is it possible to find a MD or a PhD anywhere who would supervise me, even if I will be in the first steps of my medical formation?

Reading this kind of hurt my head, either that or I'm bleeding in the head and just don't know it. But from what I'm reading, it sounds like you want to do some research.

I don't think you can do research on your own as a puny undergrad. First of all, you don't know anything. Secondly, no one will take you seriously. Thirdly, you won't have any resources in which to do your research. You will need to find a professor or doctor that is conducting research you are in interested in and see if he or she is willing to take you on for a project.

I did research as an undergraduate premed, and then did research in a totally different field as a med student. So it's possible to do as an undergrad premed.

I know SGU and AUC have active research programs going on, not sure about the rest.

i did it during post bac premed. just go to med schools to see what clinicians are doign research and need help and will give you credit for it. you can indeed do research and mine played a great part in my obtaining my residency.
