hey,
just hoping for some advice :D

Iam an undergraduate student in the states. I start my junior year this fall. I will be completing 90 credits with all the required classes by the end of this academic year, and would also be taking my mcats in april 2007.
Although my undergrad is going pretty great, I am struggling with the finances.
so I was thinking tht after iam done with the 90 credits I should start medical school somewhere so i wont really have to take too many loans here and there.
I know tht there is really no point trying to get into an american school since they are very very expensive and I would never get qualified for their loans.
Saba seems like a good option since it is cheap and also a good school,
so
- Should i finish my undergrad degree, or it does not really make a diff if saba would take me in without it.
- Do you think the saba would be a cheaper option, than american schools if I get in..
- how much of a disadvantage is one at, if you graduate from a foreign medical school.
- What would you do if you were in a situation such as mine.

Any help or advice would be appreaciated, since iam so confused about what i should do.
thanks all.. :)

ps: I wont get qualified for loans since I hve been in the us only for the past 2 yrs, and my family or me do not meet the minimum requirement for loans for most medical schools here.

US State supported Medicals schools are cheap compared to any Island school. Some states like Ga and Fla have Hope/lottery scholarships if you keep your grades high. Plus if you promise to practice in rual areas after PGy-3 - they pay your medical school loans. Had one friend worked during summer put herself thru MCG (State school) with no loans.

Please research and do your home work on medical school costs. Also Island school premed programs are much higher than most state schools. Much better to get you BA or ** degree in US.

US schools are allowed in all 50 states - Island schools vary as to where you can practice.

- Do you think the saba would be a cheaper option, than american schools if I get in.. NO - US state school much less
- how much of a disadvantage is one at, if you graduate from a foreign medical school. Many - see discussions on licensing
- What would you do if you were in a situation such as mine. First don't base your life on what a person on a public forums says. Finish school in US, even if you have to work a semester or two off to get more money. Apply to many 10-16) US state supported medical schools if you want to go on the cheapside and several private ones. Keep your credit clean -pay your debts on time. Fix any credit issues you may have. See Motley Fools and David Ramsey websites if you have issues. See non profit credit counselors also. Study hard and make top grades and study and prep very well for the MCAT so you score over a 35. Have hope!

hey ..
thanks .. alot !!
I dont think my debt is a prob, since I have not been in this country for
long enough I just dont fulfill some of the requirements.
I did look at some of the state schools but unless you are a resident of that state, you have to pay an out of state fee, which is pretty expensive.
any way I will take a better look at the tuition of other state schools.

thanks again. :D

there is financial aid...just apply. It doesn't matter if your tuition will be 30K or 70K per year. They will still give you money for your education...and once you are an MD it really doesn't matter...you will be able to pay it off anyways.
