Hi, I am a raising second year wondering whether I should continue with French or not. I took Latin in high school and I started French last year as a freshman but I'm wondering if it's worth it to continue. I'm wondering if being able to say that I can speak fluent French or near fleunt French will help me with medical school admissions, especially in comparison to instead taking social science courses (econ, anthro, socio, etc).
I'd appreciate any opinions!

just keep your grades up, that's more important than speaking a foreign language.
but hey, if you can make good grades in a foreign language major, (better than a chemistry major), then do that and you'll get into a US school. i learned this the hard way. a 3.20 GPA in chemistry at BYU i think means a heck of a lot more a 3.80 in tons of other majors. but their applications will have a look, and mine would not. but when it comes to med school, i think i did a lot better, even though i went caribbean, b/c i had the right background. my friend did a spanish major, and got into a US school.
if you do an easy major, and only get by on the sciences (i.e., the ones you need for mcat), or the required ones for med school, you won't be as strong as the hard science majors.

I guess I have to make a point clear... I've already decided on a major, but for just random side classes, I'm not sure if I should continue French or try other stuff like the social sciences. I don't dislike French and I have been doing well quite effortlessly so far, but at this point in my scheduling, I know I'll have to choose EITHER the social sciences or French because I don't have any extra room. I have no idea how well I'll do or how I'll like the social sciences b/c I've never tried them- but I know some med schools value them. But I'm not really considering majoring in French or the social sciences- maybe a minor, but not a major.
