Thanks a lot!Yes - and here they are:
1. get a book on speed reading - work on your basic skills. Often by improving your eye tracking - you will up your words per minute and bring your comprehension up.
2. Read the questions first. The MCATdesigns the verbal so you have to read it all. Read the questions first - so as you read - you will see the answers.
3. Figure the theme out quickly - Look at the old exams. One of the things inthe test design is each piece has a theme 2-3 questions are on the theme. Some of the questions are pure ID and some are comprehension based. So you need to ID what each questions is. Is it a fact ID? Is it a conjecture on the theme, is it a comprehension based question.
4. Practice with old MCAT tests for time. Time is not your frind on the MCAT - that is why my number one suggestion is not a Kaplan course but a speed reading course first for the MCAT. Do some tests where you don't answer the questions but just read it all. See if you are finishing within the time limit. Very important - speed. Then go back and reread and answer the questions as fast as possible - grade - then figure out why your logic failed to answer the questions - the Barron's book does the best in my opinion on this.
You will be surprised with a good speed reading book with exercises and some of the new speed reading software with eye drills how much speed you can gain. The first time I did the did it - went from 200 wpm with 65% comprehension to 450 wpm with 90% comprehension.
