Hi, just wondering if theres anyone else out there whose starting medicine this sept. 06 in Charles University First Faculty? I'm from Ireland and I've just accepted my place through the Abbey College. They sent me my document checklist, book list etc (All very exciting!) but does anyone know how you go about getting accommodation in the halls of residence? Do you have to pay the college fees first? Or is it arranged for you when you turn up to register in sept.?

I'm new to this whole living away from home, never mind even living abroad so I'd appreciate any comments anyone can offer! Thanks :)

Hi. . .I applied through the Abbey College in the UK. I sat the entrance exam in June but they also have another sitting in early september. I've just finished my undergraduate degree in Forensic and Environmental Science in DIT. I didn't get RCSI so I've accepted my place in Charles. Are you a graduate or school leaver?

The Abbey College were really good, they provide accommodation overnight (well you've yo pay £40) but it includes an eh. . .interesting breakfast lunch and dinner! The only thing is once you've passed the exam, to accept your place, you've to pay them £1850 entrance fee. A bit pricey I know but its just a once off payment!

Ya i am thinking of applying to the RCSi too I am in UL at the moment i will be finished next year with a Bsc hons 2:1 hopefully! in mental health nursing! Did you go for the interview in RCSI was the competition really tough? Charles looks great! So what was the interview like what kind of Qs did they ask etc! Charles looks like the way to go!!

Yes I applied for RCSI but unfortunately didn't get in on the first round. Charles is my back-up but now that I've decided to go, im really looking forward to it. Plus its much cheaper than RCSI. The interview for Charles is held after the exams are corrected, its not exactly a formal interview as you'd expect for a job but more a "once you've passed the exam you're in" unless of course you say something completely ridiculous.

So I wouldn't be too worried. So nursing isn't for you then? What made you change your mind? Final year uni is a bitch, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. . .Do you have a thesis/project for next year or is yours clinically based?

Hi Evve, where are you from? I was thinking of ringing the university and asking them how I go about getting my place in the Halls of Residence but I'm a bit afraid of the language barrier. I really don't want someone screaming down the phone at me in Czech! :) Otherwise I might just ring the abbey college and ask them what the story is. Are you a school leaver or uni graduate?

A lot of the staff manning the phones speak English, or they will quickly put you on to someone who does. Just ask them first

Yeah, I'm not sure where the 1st faculty is, but I'd recommend going down to the area and seeing what it's like. Plus you'll find out practical stuff like how easy it is to get there, any problems etc...

Hey Kat06, I too was at the June Abbey college big exam shindig type thing (Amiruth if I have met you)

I think she means for the first faculty since thats what the people who get offers from Abbey College go to. We are being put up in temporary accomodation for 5 days (20th to 25th at Kolej J.A.Komenského to get stuff sorted out.

Dual feelings about halls though, nice to be baby sat and have lots of people but its nice to have better facilities. May stay in halls for 6 months to a year till i find somewhere nice and can cajole, bribe and con people to live there.

Advice about accomodation,

For those attending 1st faculty you should be sorted.

Those attedning other schools in Prague should probably arrive earlier to sort out a place and be sure.

Hi Kat, I'm from Dublin and I'm planning on applying to the first faculty for next year (sept 07), I was just wondering how you found abbey college. There seems to be alot of people on this forum saying its a rip off. Good luck starting in Sept
