Just wondering if any UK graduates have tried applying for the 4 year course at Jag. I have a Bsc in Biology from York and feel that I have a good knowledge of the various pre-reqs although they are not the strict pre-reqs laid out by Jag (which are basically aimed at people with a North American education).
I have emailed Jag and they that their requirements were absolute but I got the feeling they were sending off a standard response.
Has anyone in a similar situation received a different answer? It would be amazing if I stood a chance of getting in as it is possibly the only place I can afford to go, whilst still having a good reputation.
Many thanks for any help people can offer.

MCAT can be replaced with UKCAT or GAMSAT score results. Hope that helps

For the record, here is the list from JAG.
Required:
1. undergraduate degree from college/university*
2. 2 semesters completed in each of pre-requisite courses:
General and Organic Chemistry (1 sem. each with laboratories)
Biology (with laboratories)
Physics (with laboratories)
Humanities or Social Sciences
Mathematics (or 1 sem. of Calculus)
3. MCAT** (Note: MCAT score results should be submitted not later than June 25, 2010).
* according to the Canadian standards undergraduate degree is not required from the CEGEP graduates. However, to be considered without completed undergraduate program, an overall grade point average of 70% or higher from prerequisite courses is required.
** Alternatively GAMSAT results will be accepted
If you are missing a class or two, just take them. This a significantly shorter list of classes than the requirements in the US!

thanks mate.
This is all too American for me lol, Im from the UK we do things differently over here in our universities. Ive got enough Bio under my belt, my MPhil was within the field of Biophysics...would that count for physics portion? I also do a lot of statistics..would that cover the Math portion?
I only have a school course in Humanities (Grade B)
Havent done any MCAT/GAMSAT etc etc
Guess im screwed??

Nooo, I don't think you are screwed... although for the 4-year program it appears you would have to take the MCAT/GAMSAT at some point. Hey, if I was the guy in charge, I would accept those credits. (Then again, that and 75 cents will get you a candy bar.) ;)
It's my understanding that the university-specific entrance exam is only for the 6-year program, since they do not have to write the MCAT/GAMSAT.
Have you also considered the new post-grad medical school programs in Ireland?

Okay, so from what I gather...I dont have to do the Jag Entrance Exam but will have to do the MCAT/GAMSAT.
I havent heard of the post-grad course in Ireland...but im guessing its going to be very expensive! What appeals to me about Jag are many things, including the "affordable" tuition fees.
If I could afford it, I would go to Ireland as its much closer to home

To the OP:
Why not email the school office and find out if your classes can be substituted for the required pre-requisites? That should address your questions entirely.
In my opinion, if you've completed a postgraduate degree in Biophysics, you've probably completed at least the rough equivalent of the above requirements. Hard to imagine a biophysics degree without basic physics, biology, gen chem, and organic chem ... not to mention calculus (the language of physics).
As an aside, there are students from the UK here, as well as graduates currently in the UK (both UK nationals an otherwise), so you'd hardly be blazing your own trail. It's been done before.
Whatever you decide, I wish you well.
