according to goljan, it's b/c of the scar tissue that will form after the infarction... remember that the cardiac cells are permanent cells therefore once damaged or "killed", they can't "recycle." (that's my terminology)... last that I remember... scar tissue was not that flexible... the amount of EF is the "best" prognosis on how well a person will do after an infarcation (normal=0.66); if it's lower than this.. the person has had a significant infarction....
