This hospital is my next offer for a clinical site (OB/Gyn). If anyone has words of wisdom regarding the rotation, please let it be known!!
Thanks in advance,
JS
hey
for obgyn, get a fertility wheel, those are pretty helpful for the price (under 10 bucks i think). i used the toronto notes and blueprints. they were ok. blueprints is a good read and can be read in a couple of weekends.

It doesn't seem that this post is generating much, but I thought I would give it another try... I am curious now if anyone just did OB/GYN at Michael Reese as an isolated Chicago rotation?? I will only be there for 6 weeks, and I'm a little concerned about housing!! The supplied list seems a little vague!! Any help would be great!!
Take care,
JS

The honest truth is that most core rotations do not provide housing. Psychiatry at both N.C. locations has free housing. I am currently not aware of any other core sites with housing..

So, what do you do for housing?

Psych in N.C. -- Housing in the hospital
Int Med in St. Louis -- Found a month-to-month furnished studio about 2 miles from the hospital (Ellsworth Apartments)
OB/GYN in Chicago -- Splitting a week-to-week furnished apt with a guy from my class that is 1 mile from the hospital (Will post the contact after I see the place)
Surg in FL -- Haven't started looking yet
Peds -- not sure where I will do the rotation yet
--> The tough thing for some areas (i.e. Chicago) is that the list of housing provided seems to be inclusive for the whole city, and it is not specific for the individual rotation. As you might expect, you could end up living on the opposite side of the city from your assigned hospital if you're not careful. I will happily post the places where I have stayed once I have the chance to personally approve of them!! In my opinion, it would be nice if the school could just provide a list of the places where the past 5-6 students stayed while finishing the rotation instead of a multiple page list that has been around for an undetermined amount of time...

Besides Ob Gyn what rotations can be legitimately done at Michael Reese. My university has an affiliation with them but I am not sure what Michael Reese offers??????

From what I know,
They have an approved ACGME Int Med program
+
OB/GYN is through affiliation with U of I ?? This is what I was advised when I questioned the Greenbook status.

Michael Reese is green book in both OBGYN and IM. Many electives are available there for anyone interested. I did my OBGYN rotation there and I was very pleased with the experience I got. Assisted on more than 15 deliveries and even went solo on 2 with having Dr. G watch over me, assisted on 1 Forcept Extractions and been pimped and humiliated by Dr. B. Overall really encourage anyone considering FM or OBGYN to go there for the experience.
As for housing. Good luck. It took a week before I found a place close to the hospital with a family. Imagine my hotel stay bill for a week. :) I'm just a student.
Alright good luck to anyone going there and of course anywhere else.

I am going to be in Chicago for atleast till the end of december doing several rotations at Michael Reese and Jackson Park. If possible I also want to do electives at Michael Reese in Jan '08. I was looking on the internet at places in the Hyde Park area which is essentially in between the two hospitals, they are in the $650/mth range for studios. Any other suggestions of areas people have lived in doing chicago rotations?

Hi everyone! I'm starting my elective followed by my internal med rotation on Feb 11, 2008 at Micheal Reese. So I'll be there for 4 months. Anyone know of a place that is convenient to get to the hospital from and cheap?? Or anyone willing to share an apartment?

Has anyone completed their OB/GYN here recently? How was it? With the hospital's impending closure, how is the support staff at the hospital?

Excellent experience! you may not have a large patient load but a smaller patient load lets you learn more. Excellent knowledge base of the physicians and they take time and interest to teach you.
Calls are 24 hour and usually Q4 [depending on number of students available]. You will have to prepare and present about 4 powerpoint presentation of variety of topics during ur 6 weeks there. Hospital Exam on the last day of ur rotation. It is tough. Start doing questions at the end of the Blueprints book from day one.
Yeah, they say the hospital in gonna close in the next few months. The IM residents are already being placed at other hospitals. Anymore questions u can pm me.
