Does Anybody Know How Many Chances You Get To Take Step 1? Not Met By Your School, But By The Nbme Or Your State?Most Island schools give you either one or two times to take the test. The State of Ohio will not allow you to take any residency if you don't pass the first time. In other states it varys. One or two times. Others further along may know far more about this than I do. These is just what I have heard. Some schools will not allow you to even take the Step 1 unless you pass the schools comprehensive exam. So I would ask about your schools policy.

Not much to add to the above except that some schools will let you sit a third time but usually you have to have a VERY good reason and get special permission. Like your house burnt down the night before the exam type of reason. As far as I know, it is not an issue with most states but with the school.
