NETTER'S ADVICE:

This Thread will sound stupid, but believe me, it's not. I'm a 4th semester student that still uses Netter's (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1416033858/valuetheplace-20) (for myself and to TA anatomy lab). I've seen lots of Netter's Atlases and this seems to happen to pretty much all of them...

As you use your Netter's Atlas (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1416033858/valuetheplace-20) (soft-cover) it will begin to fall apart. If you're careful, it won't start immediately, however, if you use it a lot (which you should), the pages will start to fall out. Many of my pages were "loose" so I recently took mine to Kinkos in the US and got it bound. They will cut off the binding and put it in rings (or you can put it in a 3-ring binder). It is an important book. I'm a 4th semester and I still use it.

Therefore, if I had it to do over again...I would take my Netter's Atlas (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1416033858/valuetheplace-20) to Kinkos BEFORE I started 1st semester and get them to cut off the binding and get them to re-bind it (with rings or the coil thing...whatever you want to call it, it cost me only like $9) OR you can have them cut it, 3-hole punch it, and put it in a 3-ring binder. I think the rings would be better, but you can do either.

Most likely you will start with extremities, then thorax & abdomen, and lastly head & neck. I would say that the first block, extremities, is relatively easier than the other two blocks. At least for me. Study hard though, because this is your opportunity to make good grade (assuming that you are average student). The second and third blocks have more details, you'll probably have much harder time to stay above class average. Don't underestimate the lab, it can boost your grade. If you are trying to study agead and don't know where to start, I would recommend head first (as it is the most difficult) - major bones, muscles and nerves so you have a good 'picture' and more time for details later on.

Good luck

survival guide
1) never listen to rumors - medical students are akin to the worst gossips you knew in high school
2) make sure u stay on top of the material - study EVERYDAY!
3) don't waste time on extracurriculars - no one cares what menial ** you did on the side during your time at med school (ex - AMSA, student govt, save the whales, feed the models), step1 score is the most critical
4) use your first aid in all your classes - come step1 time you will have a great understanding and advantage
5) don't let your classmates affect your routine - if they are struggling, don't be pulled down by them by trying to help them, if they are doing well don't let them influence you to break your routine
6) stay organized! - nothing is more pathetic then not having knowing what is going on and missing deadlines...you are an adult!
7) respect your peers/others. you don't have to like them, but don't be an arrogant tool or a snob. you aren't special.
8) remember its 4 years for the next 40. sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice.

Awesome Advice!!! I just got back from Kinko's and I had them cut the binding and 3 hole punch it for me. All for only $7. The pages are a whole lot easier to turn now and I know that it's going to last longer. I wish I did this when I took Anat and Phys @ WSU.
