Clueless

Hi Iwas wondering if I could get some opinions / advice. I am 26 years old, married and live in New York State. I am a college graduate but earned my undergraduate degree in History, GPA 3.4 and am finishing my masters 3.6ish. My background in the sciences is not very in depth at this point but I am currently working on that (Taking 3 basic Anatomy Courses this summer, some experience in Chem for non majors, statistics, have done well in all) . I have recently decided to make a career change and would like to become a Doctor of Medicine. I would be happy to enter a 1 or even 2 year pre-med/MD program. I thinkI would prefer the Carribean over Europe but would be willing to do whatever it takes.
My Questions are:
1. Are their any decent programs I would have a shot of getting into for Sept. or Jan. in the Carribean?
2. Are their any schools in Europe that would be a logical and safe option?
Thanks for your help I appreciate any comments.

No way I'd recommend going to the Caribbean for medicine pre-reqs. I'd definately stay in the US for those. If you can't do really well in that, then the Caribbean is an option AFTER you've completed them, but I just don't see the point of leaving the US for pre-med.

st. george's has an excellent pre-med/med 7 year program and you will get exempt for any basic science classes you may have taken to possibly cut it into 6 years..but my advice to you..do a 2 year post bach program which will cover all prereq's for med schools..thru that 2 years..study for MCAT alongside and then rock the MCATS and get into an american school..second option DO school..or carib. schools in my opinion(opinion!)..St. georges, Ross, Saba, AUC..all approved in all 50 states..next choice if you can't get into any of those which i doubt with your credentials is St. Matts..good luck..

Ok. That being the case do you know of any pre-med post bach programs out there that would fit me?IN NY - are you kidding? Any of the state schools are excellent in New York. If you are upstate try SUNY at Albany - they also have a good medical school. The rates would be much less than at SGU or the other schools with Premed in the islands. What I would suggest is to find a school that has a very good organic teacher. As that doing well in Organic is big plus on the MCAT - You also want good physics courses and you also want to get a good MCAT book. Kaplan is ok - the Barron's is the best, the Princeton review is very good also.
When I took the MCAT - I saw a bunch of people before the Bio with the Kaplan flash cards of organic molecules. They were of no use on the exam I took. I did look at the Kaplan MCAT stuff - and decided it was outdated and the problems did not reflect what I saw on the MCAT site where you can down load old MCAT exams. With having a masters and then getting your general sciences - if your GPA is 3.8 in them with and 34+ MCAT you can get in a US school pretty easy. Try that first.
