Is it harder for SGU students to get jobs than US vet students? Say like at a shelter? What about pay differences, does anyone know what starting salaries are for SGU vet students? (ideally compared to US schools but that would be hard to find). Even just anectodal stories is good for me. I'm trying to make sure I can pay the huge amount of debt I'd be under from going to SGU versus a state school! :p

Jobs? I don't think so but I doubt it. It may be slightly harder, I guess. I would doubt there would be problems at a shelter especially. Are shelters really that competitive or something? I doubt it.

Starting salaries for SGU students should be no different than any other vet anywhere. If they try to pull that crap on you, don't take the job. You will be a licensed, employable veterinarian just like any other new grad and will be paid accordingly. It is your responsibility to check into mean salaries by region/state and expect at least that much from an employer.

While speaking with a VP (= visiting professor) who studies this stuff, he said that I can expect approximately $60,000 as a starting salary in small animal practice as an associate (non-owner) veterinarian by 2008/2009. When I graduate, I will look into AVMA salary statistics for my region/state and specialty and expect to get paid that much.

As for paying off loans...HA...well that will take awhile no matter where you go. Start playing the lottery!

I have a macbook - will that be okay at SGU? or will I have to buy a PC?

mac have the intel-chip now. thus, they can run windows xp. they should be fine. i hope bc i have one.

Yeah no problem with XP, just download a program called 'Boot Camp' for your Macbook. XP runs just as fast on your Macbook as it does on a high-end PC
