Dental work is very cheap in Grenada compared to the US and UK.

I had a tooth pulled and it only cost me $60EC (~$23 USD). It was a very clean, gentle, professional dentist and he gave me his personal cell phone number to call if I had any excessive bleeding through the night.

It would have cost $$$$ in the US without dental insurance.

Don't worry about it - I don't think they even have dental insurance here.

When I was down in St. Vincent, I had what I thought was a cavity on my front tooth - a little brownish spot. It turned out to be just a stain. The dentist there spent a good 15minutes removing the stain and then polishing my tooth. He didn't even charge me. That being said, the dental system in the caribbean is not like the system back home. A MDG said, its MUCH cheaper to get dental work done in the caribs. I asked the receptionist as I made my appointment how much a cavity repair would be and she said around $40US

If you're really looking for the full Caribbean experience, just get yourself a set of wooden teeth...

Become a pirate! Arrgh!

WHOAAAAAAA

Ok, so I had to have kinda an emergency root canal done in Grenada the first week of classes this past janurary. Long story short, I had to have it done twice because the dentist did not do it right the first time. Also, the technique used by this dentist is no longer used in the US because it's so "out dated"
(this is the only dentist on the island who does root canals)

Although this dentist was very nice, he just did not have new and advanced equiptment or tools. I had problems again at the end of the semester and had it looked at the second I got back home to the states and basically was told that it was the worst root canal my family dentist had ever seen. I will now be paying (out of pocket bc SGU insurance only covers up to $100 in dental) $4000 to have it fixed.

Point of story......dentist in grenada is nice, but cheep is not always better, may end up costing you more in the long run.

Sorry to sound so negative, but i would not count on quality dental care on the island!

I find this interesting that this is the only dentist in Grenada that does root canals. Where did you get this information? I'd love to know.

I happen to know for a fact that my very excellent family dentist down here has done one on my father and he has had no problems now for several years after she i.e. not a guy like who did your own so it's not the same person, did it.

I love my dentist. Dr. N rules!

Then again, all I've ever had done are cleanings*. 26 years and counting cavity-free. :D

* My father, on the other hand, has bad teeth and visits her somewhat regularly for crowns and other problems.

i was told by several university professors/docs/and staff that the male dentist I saw was the only Oral surgeon on the island, and the only one who does root canals.

Now, because there is not exactly a "yellow pages" to check other dentists on the island, I am not saying i am 100% sure that he's the only one, however thats what I was told.

Dental insurance is available through the SGU health insurance plan.... I have the "Plan B" which is less coverage, and I know for a fact they only cover up to $100 for injury related dental work...ie no regular cleanings are paid for.

Hope this helps!
