I have been accepted to Saba for January 2007, and I am waiting to here back from Ross, but I should hear very soon. I am having a hard time deciding which one I should attend if I am accepted to both. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My colleague from SGU said Ross = Med school + Survivor. They are all very happy that they switched. The only advantage I see by going to Ross is if you want to practice in TX. Otherwise, Saba is the better option between the two.

by last count sept. 06 will have 500 students. Simple choice. Yes expect to be on your own at Ross. TX shouldn't be an issue as they are on a case by case basis. I also think saba has a more impressive match list.

Didn't realize you had a thread over here as well. I posted my take on the thread you started in the Ross forum: http://www.valuemd.com/ross-university-school-medicine/113315-just-accepted-jan-2007-ct.html
Again, good luck.

Perhaps you should contact the medical education department at a hospital near you or perhaps some physicians in your area who may be well versed regarding caribbean med schools. You should talk to someone who can give you an unbiased, yet valid and professionally pertinent opinion. This is the route I chose and was able to get valuable info regarding both programs that led me to choose Saba for numerous reasons that were right for me. You may also look at both Universities' match list and contact a resident near your area who would be willing to talk to you regarding their experiences.
Best of luck
Salutations "drcraigger":
Personally, when I decided to apply to medical school, one of the criteria that led me to choose Saba is the small class sizes compared to the other Caribbean medical schools. Granted Ross is probably a more established school as they have been around much longer. However, I feel that for my purposes Saba will provide me with more than an adequate education to become a physician. Good luck on your decision. Ciao.

I have been accepted to Saba for January 2007, and I am waiting to here back from Ross, ...Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. It is all about you!! It is about your learning style. Both are good schools. Ross will have large classes like a major university - Std tests. etc. Saba will be smaller classes - a bit more personal. Basically 1:400 ish per classs vs 1:70 ish per class. Both are on small islands. Again it is your learning style? Use that as your deciding factor.

fly down and see both, also look at fail rates each sesmter, ross likes to fail people to make a few bucks each semester.

Ross is owned by DeVry - those guys with the annoying ads for technical school?
Thanks, but no. A caribbean school has enough stigma to deal with as it is. And Anatomy lab with 500 classmates doesn't appeal, either.
Plus, Dominica is really a third-world craphole. Go visit before you decide.

I chose Saba because I was, quite honestly, afraid of getting weeded out at Ross. Saba doesn't weed students out, I know for sure because I'm here, alive and kicking. Ross may be a little more established, and many students have done well from there, but I don't know if it would be any better coming from there. What matters now is a.) passing basic sciences so you can b.) take the USMLE step 1 and do well. It would have been harder at Ross for me, especially since I hear it is a little bit rougher living over there on Dominica (not to mention higher tuition). I do feel that here at Saba you will score on the step 1 exactly in proportion to how hard you study your subjects, and how many questions you do. The school in no way hinders that.
Good luck!

Is there a difference between Ross and Saba for those who want to come back to California? When I do a search on physician I see a ton from Ross. I know saba's approval is fairly new...but do you think it will be where Ross is in a few years? Any input would be appreicated. THanks.

Ross will get you more competive residencies...which means more job offers...simple as that...but it all depends on your USMLE and grades...good luck

Competitive residencies are based on board scores when it comes to IMGs, so where you went to school doesn't play a role. Actually, doesn't all residencies depend on board scores? So there :-)
