Does transferring from one caribbean medical school to another caribbean medical school will affect residency application?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it looks bad on your application. You better be prepared to defend the circumstances/why/etc.

I agree...it looks especially bad when you transfer from one caribbean school to another.

A friend of mine started at AUC and transferred to Ross after 2 semesters.

She applied for ob-gyn and got interviews at top programs like the Mayo Clinic (the main one) and had 5 (yes, 5) pre-match offers.

If you transfer because you fail out of a school, yes it will look bad. Otherwise, it shouldn't be a factor at all.

still is something you are going to have to explain. I've had multiple PDs tell me it looks bad.

i have heard a few people say they dont careif you score 260s, if you transfered(with the exception of carib to a US school) they wont even look at your application.

I totally agree....and these are the applicants that end up pre-matching into some programs (on probation).

just my usual warning on pre-match. i had numerous friends who took pre-matches. ALL of them, every single one...left the programs after one year. the comment i had form a program director one time sums it up..."we dont offer pre-matches, we are a good program, we dont have to offer pre-matches". basically he was saying only lousy programs have to resort to pre-matches.

While on the interview trail earlier this year, other colleagues kept asking if I was offered a pre-match. Some were shocked when I told them I turned all of mine down (I had 4 offers) and others had the "I think you're lying/stupid" look b/c they don't believe anyone would turn down a pre-match offer. To most medical students, a pre-match offer is a 'batch of honor' but at the programs that offered me one has too many deficiencies.

However, there was one PD who proudly stated the "we don't offer prematch b/c we're special' but he was clearly in denial and i wasn't too surprised when I found out his program didn't fill thru the match.

it does look bad. Most PDs have more experienec with US grads, and transferring among US schools doesn't happen all that often. G

so true. we had 2 med students from US schools transfer into our US school(where i am finishing up residency), but their husbands had matched into our residency program. that is teh kind of excuse that I think most PDs would have no problem with among US schools.
