Can someone please give me a quick rundown as to a typical first termer's week? Is class all day, 5 days a week, or do you typically have a day off? I'm particulary concerned with Friday's since I will be heading back home to New York in late November for a Saturday wedding. I'm going to attempt to get a flight back to NY on a Friday and return on a Sunday, so as to not miss any class time. Thanks.

1st term is the only one where you have afternoon lectures, but you wil have afternoon labs for the rest of the terms (well except 3rd term-2 or 3 small groups, but that's all)

typical is biochem and histon on m,w,f
and anatomy and embryo on tues, thursday
histo labs are on wed or thursday depending on ur last name
anatomy lab is either tuesday or friday depending on ur last name
then there are biochem small groups, clinical skills group, and anatomy dry lab and living anatomy.

I dont think you can really say we had a schedule in st vincent. Everyday you could expect one of the following:
A) a class to be cancelled
B) The professor not showing up
C) A "mandatory" osha/hippa/teams session being announced for 2morrow
D) Faculty realises that the aforementioned class that was cancelled was rescheduled for tomorrow night. Mandatory event (C) is now the day after tomorrow
E) All of the above
F) All of the above + all the fun of hospital visits (they have a person there whose job it is to make schedule changes for days you dont want go or when your Dr decides to take the day off, usually a fairly long line there between classes)

Stupid valuemd wont let me upload the excel file....
Don't let -T- get you guys down - it wasn't as bad as he makes it out to be. Sure there were schedule mix ups and sometimes the prof didn't show, but this didn't happen very often (I think the prof didn't show up maybe 3 times during the term). With the number of VPs and schedules that had to be juggled, the admin up in Vinnies did a great job.

They came and gave us an info session the other day. Based on that info session, I'm wondering if it'd be a more humane death to shoot myself in the head rather than die of boredom.
I'm not sure of the prof's name (wasn't Dr. Heineken <-- not a real nameso no TOS violation here evil moderator) but was one of the Germans and he was so incredibly boring + the mumbling that I don't know how I'll make it through a lecture if that was just a freaking info session. I see a lot of skipped classes being likely in my future.
The one thing I wanted to ask was that the term is 18 weeks long (including exams) yet they list 24 VPs coming down throughout it. What? Do they only teach like one lecture?
Oh and is hospital scheduling really that bad? I'm hoping to get that out of the way early. I have a good group of friends picked out (5 people right?) and they're also down with that.

With the number of VPs and schedules that had to be juggled, the admin up in Vinnies did a great job. Agreed. Considering the number of VP's, scheduling was largely successful. Give the guy scheduling all the VP's props as he really does try his best to get everything in order.

Yes, the classes can be easier but just a warning not to underestimate the term. There is a LOT of material covered in pathophys and there are a LOT of drugs in pharm. Not everyone is superstudent (not implying you Saora1 ;)) so just a warning. It is still possible to do poorly or outright fail in St. Vincent's.
The one thing I wanted to ask was that the term is 18 weeks long (including exams) yet they list 24 VPs coming down throughout it. What? Do they only teach like one lecture? There are 4 hours of lectures every day (with only a few exceptions). Most of it is pathophys. It is often the case that you will get 2 hours of pharm followed by 2 hours of pathophys and as the term progresses, it'll mostly be 1 hour pharm and 3 hours of pathophys or simply 4 hours of pathophys. In the end, there will be over 200 hours of pathophys lectures. There are some topics that only require a handful of lectures and other topics that will require at least 14 hours of lecture. So, yes, there are plenty of hours to go around for the 24 VP's. Some complain about the VP's, and depending on the VP, I concur with the complaints, but for the most part, the VP's were good (I believe better than the path lecturers) so even if you aren't a class goer, I'd suggest going to some of the classes just to listen to the prof.
Oh and is hospital scheduling really that bad? I'm hoping to get that out of the way early. I have a good group of friends picked out (5 people right?) and they're also down with that. Hospital scheduling can get bad if you pick the wrong day. They typically have lots of staff meetings on Tuesdays so people in that group tend to have lots of changes in the schedule. So, if you pick the right day, scheduling is pretty easy. I got lucky with the scheduling and I had only 1 or 2 days where there were "staff meetings" or something. I took it easy and only went to the ones that we were scheduled for (with a few exceptions in which I went in extra time) and still came out with a few extra scheduled ones that I could skip. We were required to go to the hospital 20 times. Hint for those incoming folks, be respectful to the doctors, nurses, and sgu secretary when rescheduling stuff or trying to get in extra days. These people have lives and while they're largely willing to let you work with them, don't ruin it for everyone else by being punks. As far as the number of people, 4-5 people is just about right. A small group is easier to coordinate rescheduling. They won't let you go with more than 5 people no matter what.
