70% is the usual cutoff for a C grade for most classes..
80% = B
90% = A
Some may be lower e.g. 88.5% for an A.
There is A, B or C with no plus or minus.
You can fail individual classes so, same as your school; doesn't matter if your other grades are all 100%. If you fail one that's less than 2 credits, you are allowed to sit a make-up exam. Anything above usually means retaking the class and therefore, the term.
70% is not so easy to get sometimes.
You need a cumulative 2.25 GPA to advance to the next term or you may have to join the alternate program and take a lighter load e.g. if you get all Cs in first term, I don't think you can take the full class load for second term.

What would show up on your transcript? Letter grade, percentage grade or neither?

As said, cutoffs tend to be 90/80/70. It is a letter grade based system. Approximately 5-15% get 90%+, depends on the course really. Don't worry about passing-if you put in the effort, you will pass.

Keep in mind though, if you get an 89.99999% and the cutoff is 90% for an A, you're stuck with the B. There is no report of your % grade anywhere on your transcript. And dont even think about going to the prof to whine for a higher grade.

Very helpful! Thank you! The grading system sounds very fair, and I'm glad to see that there are no plus/minus to the letter grades, I've always thought they were pointless. thanks again.
I wrote a bit more on my thoughts of the grading system on another thread (Trip to Grenada Good or Bad? p5-6). Keeping in mind that grades are supposed to be an indicator of how much crap we know and how we compare with other students (both in your class and in others), I'll let you decide if it is fair or not. As for changing your grades, some professors will do it if you beg/whine (and look cute) enough, others wont pass you if u fail by a single question even if your mother had just died and you were diagnosed wih cancer.

I'm not sure if this question was directed towards me, but on my transcript a 77% would be listed as a C+ which is the minimum grade to pass the course.
I meant the grading system at SGU.

Uhh... so what exactly is passing then? I know in grad school anything below a B is failing  ! I would assume med school is the same?????

passing is a "C", though if all you get are "C"s then you GPA will fall below a 2.5 and the school can put you on academic probation until your gpa goes above a 2.5 (you will need to pass the 2nd comp exam - BSCE 2- to move on to clinicals if your gpa is <2.5), you can graduate with a 2.0 though.
one of the reasons that caribbean schools aren't P/F is probably because the school needs to show what the students are capable of - P/F can't necessarily show that.

Irregardless of class, passing grade is a C. What that translates to in percentages depends on the class.

By fair, I mean it seems like they give you opportunities to succeed by reducing your coursework if you need it reduced, as opposed to letting you fail while they cash your check.
Ultimately, I would much prefer a P/F grading system to eliminate the competetive atmosphere seen in most schools, but I think only a handful of those exist, and to my knowledge (which is limited), none of them are in the caribbean.
P/F system isnt at SGU and other caribbean schools mostly because students transfer from these schools and the grades provide a better assessment of the caliber of the student. However, it is completely beyond me why they don't implent a +/- system or at least put your % along with the class average on your transcript. It sucks when you miss your next higher letter grade by 1 or 2 marks.

H/P/F is used at AUC. It doesn't say much about caliber of student if one gets a lousy grade on the USMLE, but got straight A's in his classes.
Either way, grades are difficult to compare between schools.
