I have been accepted to Ross for August but waitlisted at SGU for Aug and accepted for Jan. I'm looking for advice. SGU is my first choice by far but my advisor said I may not find out if I get in until a week before school starts! (GPA 3.2/MCAT 29Q)

Im planning on staying on the waitlist just in case but are there any disadvantages to starting in Jan rather than Aug?? Im so confused and I dont know what to do!

Any help would be wonderful. Thanks!

I'm curious about this too as a 'just in case'. Can you elect to start in January?

if it was me, id go with SGU. in fact, that was me at one time and thats what I did! i started in january (05) and it has no disadvantages. heck even an advantage goes with it....extra time to study for the USMLE! and a short lil vacation right after til you start clinicals :)

I think the advantage for the january class is that they get more prep time for the USMLE and a longer summer break than the August class (a few weeks) during the 2nd year. Of course, I haven't started yet but this is what I read on other threads. Maybe other upperclassmen could comment on this. This choice isn't an easy one. I'll refer you to my thread with a similar situation, on the ross forum to see if it will help you out. Also, see if you can defer Ross for a term and if not just reapply right now for the winter term.

it depends on your current situation. Do you absolutely want to start in August? or are you ok with January; do you have the time to waste? See if i was really in a hurry to start school, I would pay the depsit for Ross (in my time, it was only 200dollars) and stay on the waitlist for sgu. But if you are really in a hurry to get your affairs in order, just go to Ross, there is really no guarantee that you will get in, if not then come to sgu, i personally love this school

Even if you get into the SGU Jan. class, you will not have your match until 2011. If you start at Ross this Sept, you will hit the 2010 match. If I were you I would defer the Ross acceptance until Jan. b/c you can still finish by 2010 if you start at Ross in Jan.

Absolutely agree! I got three colleagues who went to ROSS and all love SGU. SGU all the way!
