Hi I am an accepted student for Jan. 07. I wanted to ask 1st semester students (or anyone that has completed 1st semester) if the Netter's or Grey's Anatomy already made study cards are good tools to use for anatomy. I am planning to pre-study the lower limb section, would memorizing these study cards be the most effective way to study before classes begin? or should I purchase the books themselves? I keep hearing how beneficial it is to pre study the lower limb and I just wanted to make sure I use my time wisely.

I would appreciate your comments.

I got my degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, so I have almost know anatomy background. I'll be interested to see what others on the forum say. Congrats on getting in to the best class ever at saba!! See you in January...

Netter cards are very good. I would start with upper limb- perhaps head and neck. I would also get an atlas to reffer to (you will get one eventually).

The curriculum starts with the lower limb here - the structures are bigger and easier to dissect.

If you really want to study, get a Netters and maybe a BRS anatomy review. You can get the Netters cards (I found them not very helpful) or a PDA version (I found it to be worthless).

However, I wouldn't worry too much about studying. Relax - it's the LAST CHANCE YOU WILL EVER HAVE. Two week vacations are a poor subsitute for what you have a chance for now.

rdecastro is right- i tried studying anatomy before school started. It was futile. Perhaps you can just look at the cards a bit so later it wont be new, but don't expect to know anatomy before school starts.

Undergrad and took Functional Human Anatomy which they uses cadavers for us to see the muscles, etc. I say Netter's atlas is a must buy. If you study ahead before Gross Anatomy in Medical School, it would def. be helpful. Once you actually starts to study, you will reazlied that a lot of names is based on where it is attached to and it will get easier as you go along. Too bad that I realized it too late but at least I know how to study for anatomy in medical school. Also, the pictures you use in atlas vs cadavers, you will realized that the real muscles are much smaller (dried up, etc). If you have any question, I guess you can message me on how to study for anatomy.

I'll go check out those anatomy books that were suggested and I guess I'll think twice about solely relying on those cards. I'm thinking now I should maybe take an intro. to anatomy course in the fall before heading to saba.

But anyways, thanks for the great input!

So do you guys think Im ok going in without any previous anatomy classes? My brother is in dental school and he said unless i want to get my butt kicked i better have at least some exposure. I might not go so far as to take a class, but seems there are conflicting ideas as to whether i should even bother trying to get some exposure. What do you guys think....Should I

A)Take an anatomy class through the college
B)Buy the Netters card or an atlas and just try to casually expose myself so that it isnt completely new to me.
C) Continue Rock Climbing, Backpacking, and slacking off (its sooooo nice)

go get a Netters - take a look at it. Without guidance, how will you know what to study?

Then go C)

Definitely get some exposure and if possible take a class. It'll help you a lot. Also, Netters cards and the Netters atlas are great and make sure to go into lab as much as you can.
