HEY...are apartments furnished??? with appliances etc...?? I am moving there in September....do you have to go see the apartment or does the school help you find one prior to arrival? I am sure the school told me that they can help me get one...just curious..

Yes, usually. Some have more appliances than others - mine has a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, electric can opener, and electric skillet.
I supplied my own Foreman and electric kettle.

my question is related:
i want to comeback as soon as I finish 1st semester. When would I look for a place?
is it good idea to find a place before i start first semester (ie i will come like a week before 1st semester starts to get adjusted and at the same time find a place)
thanks

from what I have heard, second semester housing needs to be cleared up relatively soon. I am quoting from the email Laura sent me in regards to my dorm assignment, ect, "Many of you may also be concerned about finding housing for your 2nd semester, when you have to move Off-Campus. In a few weeks, I will distribute a copy to each of you of the updated Housing List. But, in the meantime, feel free to communicate with 5th Semester students that will be moving on to rotations they may have a place that you are interested in!"

Hi there.
I was wondering if you had made arrangements for your daughter's care yet? I was curious as to what your child care arrangements are.
What an adventure this will be for you and your daughter.....

Although a binding contract seems like a great idea, leave room in your lease to break it if necessary. A contract that obliges you until the end of your time on the island may leave you with financial obligations. You might want to leave your housing for a better place, because of infestation, or other unforeseen events.....
About 15 or so of the 70 students in my husband's first semester failed one course or another. A few students left the island all together.
Most landlords are pretty reasonable about renting, holding apartments and such, especially if you give them a $$ deposit. Once you are in, if you pay your rent and are a good tenant, they want you to stay for the rest of the time. I can't see a situation where they would want you to go.... They can't be bothered to list and rent all the time. A tenant that will stay the entire time is great for them.
Good luck and try not to be too stressed out about housing yet. A few weeks after you are on the island, once you are a little accustomed to how the island works, then start planning.
