If you are staying in the Residence Hall, it is about a 5-10 min ride, i recomend that you take a taxi.

It's about $20 away...

But seriously, the best way is just to go to the taxi stand as soon as you walk out of the airport. It will cost you about $15 or $20 to get to the RH. You should try and find other new (or even current) students that you can share a cab with to the RH.

The best way is to have a friend pick you up, so if you have a friend in school (which you probably won't yet as a first semester...and most 2nd and up semester students don't get back until Sunday or Monday) it would help. Also, if you can find someone (like current student) on your flight that has a ride, maybe you can hitch a ride from them.

Good luck...

$15-20 for 2-3 miles? And I thought that there are not thieves on the island....

When I first arrived on the island I walked across the street and rented a car. I paid $55/day during the X-mas high season. You may be able to find something for $30/dy with the SMU discount, but don't be surprised if you don't.

When I left the island, the res hall called a taxi for me to go to the airport. I asked how much it would cost and how much to tip ( I figured a dollar per bag). The res hall person said you don't tip. I now know why. I had planned on tipping but after the ride, I would not tip. The taxi arrived on time. The driver was on her phone, didn't move, didn't acknowledge me. I opened the door, loaded my luggage and when to the airport. I would rate the ride as POOR service. The taxi driver and the res hall staff quoted me $15 US or $12.50CI.

All the taxi drivers know where the school and dorms are. Tell them you need to go to the dorms for St. Matthew's medical school in Seven Mile Beach. You do not want to go to the residence suites located in West Bay by the Courtyard Marriot.

Good luck and welcome to SMU :) .

You will typically have 10-20 students on your flight so just split the cost.

Just tell the cab your going to the SMU residence hall. They all know where it is..
