Alright this is gonna sound real dumb, but I have my scalpel blades and I am really concerned about carrying them on the plane. I know I know I read earlier I should be able to check them, however I am....how do i say this...."at high risk of racial profiling" on airplanes, haha. Seriously I just went on spring break and i had like 3 "random" security checks and they dindt let me carry on any luggage. I really dont want to miss my flight cuz they are too busy doing searches on me and my luggage cuz of blades so if I can buy them on the island it would just save me a lot of trouble. Stupid, I know but i've been through it ....

Wow...why don't you ship the blades to yourself, that way you can bypass the checks and pick it up when it arrives on the island. I think you have enough proof that you're a medical student for security to have enough common sense to let you take the scapels with you...

check the blades separately from the handles- you really shouldn't have any problems if they are in your checked bags. They certainly won't let you take the blades in carry -on(handles maybe, but not the blades).

Put'em in your check-on luggage. If you put them on your carry-on you'll be on CNN.

Never keep them on ur carry on bag unless you want some local media attention. If you are muslim brother then CNN (los dou) & FOX but NPR will try to defend you.
on the otherhand, publicity for medical school whichever you are going to attend. you might get a free tution package deal after the possible cohort study.

You should not have any trouble if you put in your check in bag, but if that does not ease your tension then just ship it to your school. There is a small chance You could get blades from upper classmen but I would not count on it. When I was on Saba it took about 3-4 weeks to recieve letters which would be put in your mailbox at the school. Check with the school if they still use the same mailing address as below.

I threw my kit in the checked baggage and no one made any comment. I would recommend dividing up your stuff. More than one person has lost CD's and other valubles at the San Juan Airport (not the most honest airport staff). I would say to put anything valuble to a luggage checker in your carryon.

You raise an interesting point. Beware of keeping valuables in your checkin baggage. When I went down the second time I brought a palm handheld with me and a labtop. I carried the heldheld with me and checkin the handheld box with the charger, some CDs etc. My bag got delayed in NY because of some spilled liquid. So the airline asked me if it was ok to cut the locks and remove the liquid. I agreed; however when I received my bag 2 weeks later the handheld box was gone with the charger and so where my collection of my CDs. On the positive side AA reimbursed me for the lose but this did not help me on a island where some electronic commonities are difficult to obtain
