Hi,
I am a IMG and just got a residency position in California in a hospital which does not sponsor H1 visa. I passed Step3 in January. Is it possible to get a H1 visa on another way? Do I need an attorney? I need urgent help!

H1B MUST be sponsored by your employer. Ask them if they're prepared to sponsor a J1 visa. If not, there's really only two options: Marry a US citizen or find another residency.

Thank you PathOne.
I will have to get the J1 visa at the ECFMG which means that I will get the two year home requirement as well...which I don´t really want.

J1 is not the best, but not that bad.
I'm on a J1 myself.
You can get a waiver easily with the help of a lawyer.
It will be bad though to leave the program after the match, it is a breech of contract.
Also, you can offer the program to pay for H1b paperwork yourself.

PS: you need to hurry as j1 takes a while to be sponsored. There is a whole bunch of paperwork, it takes quite some time.

I read that it is nearly impossible to get a J1 wavier. How easy was it for you?

Every resident that I talked too during the interview season never new someone from their program who needed to do the 2 years home requirement. It seems easy to get a waiver. My classmate already has work invitations. Shes just PGY1
