I have been accepted into the class starting in Aug. 2006 and I am looking to defer for a sememster and enter the class in Jan. 2007. Is that possibleat SMU? I have not found anything to tell me about their process. Help! :confused:

I've defered before for medical problems reason. Actually, I gotto grow a "pair" to ask them for another deferment, on advice of my doc. I feel very bad about it, though, because I don't want to blow my "accepted student" status. But...there was no way of knowing it, when I applied back i late 2004. And sometimes life gets in the way :( .
Anyway, to answer your original question, Yes, it's possible. You do need to have a valid reason. They've been (the school) very good to me. Just call the school, and tell them these things upfront.

I deferred from the May class to the August class. It didn't seem like a big deal at all. I just called the admissions dept.

Just make sure you do end up going or if you don't let them know now. I was in a similar situation, I had to defer my admissions for medical reasons. Anyhow I received a bill of three hundred something from a collection agency, apparently the school had bought my visa or something like that without my knowledge... I'm going in August so it doesnt matter but otherwise I would have been pissed. Just make sure you clear it up with the school, you dont want to get a bill from a collection agency.
