Dont worry. If you are applying to Ross, then if you get in the lower 20s you should be fine. Also, other components of your application are important too. Undergrad gpa, volunteer work, etc. MCAT in the lower 20s and gpa > or = 3.0 you should have a good shot.

I also was stressing about the MCAT years ago when I took it. Now, I'm a fourth year and happy that is done and over with.

Whatever you do, do your best and everything will work out for you in the end.

Good Luck!

the lowest that i know of...is myself...never wrote it...so that's a low score to begin with.

don't stress about it, be confident, you'll do fine.

I took Kaplan, and my scores kpet going up each week I took the practice tests. When I took the last pratice test, I was up to a 27. When I took the real thing a week later, my score dropped...significantly! Then I had a friend who could not get above a 25 on his kaplan tests, and he got a 30. This is not to discourage you, it is to help you realize that anything can happen. Keep at it, don't get discouraged, stay focused, and just do the best you can. My MCAT score was REALLY low, and I had a GPA pf ~3.0, and I got into Ross. Other factors on the application and letters of recommendation really do factor into you getting in. Some US med schools will have a certain % that your MCAT score, GPA, and interview make up in decidng admission. Ross does not use a specific standard, but they try to look at the big picture to see if they think you can get through the rigors of Med school despite a low GPA or low MCAT. They want to give those who have promise a second chance to show themselves. Sometimes they're right about the person, sometimes they're not. It is up to you, not Ross, to succeed.

Anyway,
Good Luck:D

I went to the Ross info seminar in dallas a few wks ago. One of the admission guys told us a girl whose second language was english got in with an 11. I was surprised myself. Its good that ross looks at the whole app. rather then numbers. He said shehad a good gpa and good clinical experience.

wow an 11!!
I'm not sure that entering in hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt would be so smart since in 16 months, she HAS to pass Step I, in order to continue her education.

Anyway, my Kaplan experience was also not great. It really depends on the teachers you get. Try to find some Kaplan books and study hard.
I think the money and time I spent on Kaplan could have been used elsewhere.

Look into ExamKracker books, they are an excellent source of questions with very good explanations.

How good is Ross compared to American or Texas medical schools? What are the downs and ups?...It takes a little longer in Ross, right? Also, how well does Ross prepare you for the USMLE?

Also,.. is it problem based learning?

Any information will help since I will be taking the MCAT this april and will be applying on June for Fall 2007 entrance.

Also,..comparing UAG in Mexico to Ross....

What do you guys recommend Texas Medical school, UAG or Ross?
Having a 3.5 .. assuming I get a 25 in the MCAT...and good background./

Your questions can be answered by running a search on this forum. There are many threads (recent) that can answer most of your questions. To simply answer your question: If you can get into any US school, go there. Ross is a good off-shore school in comparison to others, and can create good oppurtunities if you work hard, but once again, if you can get into a US school, life will be easier for you

Good Luck.

I would always recommend a US school but with a 3.5 and a 25Mcat TX medical schools would be out of the question. Out of Ross or UAG? I also mulled this over. UAG will take you longer overall and you will have to spend 4yrs in Mexico. The only plus I ccould come up with was saving major$ by going to UAG. But to me the saving are not worth it. Ross has abetter rep than UAG. Plus check this out http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/professionals/physicians/applicants/STDNHPSE.rtf
Ross is listed but not UAG. Just one less hurdle.

Actually, with a 3.5 and a 25 MCAT TX medical schools certainly won't be out of question. In fact, the applicant will have a decent shot of getting into one of the TX schools. Texas is perhaps the easiest state to get into med school. I know a few people with stats like that who made it into UT Galvaston and UT San Antonio. So I would say go ahead with it .

Your right. Its not entirely out of the question, just HIGHLY improbable. I know several current med students here in SA. Lowest MCAT? 27, but 3.8 GPA and a MS. Lowest GPA? 3.2, but 30 MCAT. All of that last persons stats are almost identical to mine, except Im 8 yrs older and my father is not a local Dr. It got me a couple of interviews but no acceptance.
I would say that aiming for a 25MCAT is setting your sites atleast 4pts too low. You can check the stats of the last few classes, both applied and accepted at TMDSAS.

Wow! I am very surprised that you didn't get in with a 3.2 and a 30. Did you not even get in to TCOM of UNT? I guess then the people I know with lower stats must have some significant extracurriculars. Why didn't you try a post bacc or something with that MCAT of yours?

Tx easiest to get in? your in the wrong direction, TX is one of the hardest states. Lowest I have EVER heard of for UTMB was a 3.35 and that was even from UT-Austin BA Bio with a 26 MCAT (one of the hardest degrees to actually complete and obtain in the USA according to poles, stats and international professors) UTMB is the easiest of all the schools...not to mention that person was from 1996 and spent 1992-1996 applying, yes 4 years before he was accepted. I am sure there are plenty of hook-ups and rich kids who get accepted with lower stats, don't forget there are guys with 18 MCATs that have gotten into Harvard med because of hook-ups and money. For TX right now you need to have a 30+ MCAT and a 3.6 from Rice or UT-Austin OR 3.9+ from one of the normal colleges (tech or Texas state) to pretty much guarantee yourself entrance, maybe less if you are willing to be denied a couple of time or if you have alot of experience. Another guy I know had a 28 MCAT and 3.4 from UT- Austin with a ** Bio and was denied multiple years in a row from all the Tx schools, ended up going with Ross sine he didn't want to waste any more time.

Well, from what I have heard, Texas is certainly one of the easiest states to get in. You guys have 7 state schools who only accept in-state students. Hardest? try california.

I'm from Texas as well. It does appear that we are on the easier side of entrance to medical school. That certainly does not mean it's easy to get in, just maybe a little easier than some places.

sam212, You are incorrect. Texas accepts up to 10% of the class from out of state.

Texas usually get 3x more applications than slots available.

You are a great role model. I salute you. :p For some reason I'm thinking that the written section of the mcat was your lowest score. haha

...except the written score doesn't count towards the numerical total.

Still, blkpride shows that poor undergraduate scores don't necessarily correlate with becoming a successful doctor.

Not even jokin around a little.I dont know if you are at Ross, but everyone be slammin how smart they are and how they all got like 35 on the mcat and stuff...I aint lyin at all.

And no-the written part was not my thang.I think the letter score was a 'Z' or somthin. It was pretty bad.Anyway it was a long time ago,and I am almost finished with my cores and I could care less any mo about the mcat, gettin in, not failin any semesters, passin step 1 or any of that nonsense.Even with my great, stellar grades and fenominimal mcat sco.
