How late is too late for Aug 2006?

Hi guys, I have a quick question. Would I be really late in applying for Aug 06 if I waited till the end of this semester (around mid May), I really wanted letters from my profs this semester as I think they've known me the best. My alternative would be to go ahead and send in my app this week with my existing letters. Any help greatly appreciated!
