For all of you coming onto the island in May, the beach has just come in again. Hopefully it will stay long enough for you all to enjoy it. Go and have a look if you get an opportunity. I was there yesterday and it was great.

Well, there's a pseudobeach in Cove Bay but it's REALLY rocky.

Well, there is really only one true beach. Well's Bay. It is called a "wandering beach" which means it is there for a randomly determined time and then all the black sand is somehow magically sucked into the sea and large round rocks remain.
No one has seemed to be able to logically explain it all to me. The last time the beach was there for months but it comes and goes at random. Hopefully it will hang around... When it is gone, the snorkel guys still seem to have a great time there.
There is also Cove Bay which isn't a beach per se but is getting cleaned up bit by bit. It is very, very rocky. People still snorkel and the kids play in the water. They also have great beach bonfires here.
I'm trying to upload a pic of Well's Bay in January. Hope it works!

I hadn't realized the beach had gone again. When did it leave?
When I was there it arrived during my break between 2nd and 3rd semester - they said it was the first time they'd had a beach in 6 years! They also said it was a harbinger for a hurricaine. Thank goodness that wasn't true.

It departed right after new years and came back a week or two ago.
