Info from 1.5years back.
Of all the people that Apply, only 1/3 of them get called for an Interview.
Of all the people who get interviews, only 1/3 of them get an admission.
don't know if it's changed...... I wouldn't doubt it seeing as applications to the school have increased in number.

I find the whole 1/3 or 1/4 of people interviewed get accepted to be a little difficult to believe. I mean, what variables do they use to discriminate the pool of people who were interviewed? I can't speak for everyone's interview, but mine was very pre-formulated with the doctor going down a short list of extremely generic questions. Even the short essay was very generic. Maybe the interviews play a much bigger role than I'm aware of, but it certainly didn't seem like it when I was going through mine. I was in and out of there in what seemed like 45 mins.

If you're referring to the SGU interview, I think it's more of a formality than anything. I got the feeling it's only real purpose is to screen for obviously psychotic applicants and so you can say "I had an interview". Honestly, whoever heard of getting into med school without an interview? I think for most US schools you sit before a panel at the school, and you're grilled for at least a good hour. I showed up at my interviewer's house, who was wearing sandals, shorts, and a polo. Stuff from the party the night before had obviously been hastily stowed under the sofa, in the closets, etc. I had a few generic interview questions, but there were a lot of tangents and it felt like conversing with someone whom you just met on a bus. I think if you didn't bomb your MCATs, your letters of recommendation are at least equivocal, and you can answer "how do you intend to pay for your education" question, then you're set for SGU.

Well, I'd have to say that based on the SGU website information, you have about a 50/50 chance of getting in if you are granted an interview. They only grant interviews to about 1/3 to 1/4 of all applicants. Plus, if you're lucky enough to get an interviewer who will tell you that you did well or not, you should probably have a pretty good idea about whether or not you'll be offered a seat. I was also told that alot of people don't even show up for their interviews. Plus there are people who get accepted elsewhere (not so good schools probably or maybe even US schools) and stop following the process. So if you showed up and did well, you'll probably be offered a seat. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm still waiting for final acceptance myself. They like to take their time with most of us. I'm sure we'll be fine. I haven't seen anyone post that they were interviewed and still got turned down either. Good luck! Hope to see you and everyone else there in August.

Never heard that. Don't buy it.
My opinion is that you'd have to be an idiot to be granted an interview (no matter how useless it may be) and not go without good reason such as a family death.
That's a great way to show your interest - don't go to the interview you're offered.

I was told about the no-shows from my interviewer's personal experiences. They exist. Usually due to the applicant getting accepted quicker to a less prestigious carribean school and think they can just blow SGU off.

The odds of getting into SGU is 1/6, courtesy of Ms. Hendriche..Assuming if this is true, then the possible break down -- 1/3 get interviews and 1/2 of those get accepted. But realistically speaking, more than 1/2 are selected for after the interview because many people may decide not to come after getting accepted elsewhere. Yeah, some may not bother with the interview because they got accepted elsewhere, but I doubt if "a lot of" people won't show up for their interview because you "do have to" book your interview with your interviewer..

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there are maniacs out there who would do stupid things like that..

Well, I think they may be making the biggest mistake of their life because they have no idea about the differences among various Caribbean schools. Especially in terms of eligibility for licensure, which most people don't have a clue about when they first started in the Caribbeans...

I think alot of them are people who got into a US school and used SGU as a backup. If you got into a US school would you still go to the sgu interview?

Actually, about now, they'll start getting people with US acceptances dropping back. But most of anyone dropping before March were stupid people that I cited examples of earlier. He told me there was one guy who even worked AT his hospital, had an interview scheduled WITH HIM, and blew him off totally because he got into another carribean school. You're right though. Talk about losers...

Of course not, but how is that really relevant to the OPs original question?
That's a whole different scenario cause I'm pretty sure the question was "gee, if I get an interview what are my chances of acceptance?" rather than to find out if people get granted an interview and CHOOSE not to go to SGU.

he was asking why someone would not show up
