WI will give you one after 1 year of GME

sorry. guess i wasnt very clear with my question. I'd like to know which state processes the application for state licensure the fastest, i.e. after all the gme criteria etc has been met and the application has been sent.

that's a good question, but I have no idea how you would get an answer to it.

In most states, though, you start the app process long before you graduate... so if they require the 3 years of GME you would start early in your third year and your license will be activated when you graduate residency. A lot of states will keep an app active for a year, so... lets say 3-4 months into year 3, you'll send it in and start the paper chase. Once you finish that, you're probably just going to have to wait for the next monthly meeting for them to confirm you after you finish.

the problem with some states is , they dont allow u to apply before the 33nd month of residency. plus they take a long time to process. example- GA

The only thing I can suggest is that you look into the FSMB FCVS and see what that might do to shave that time down. GA keeps your file active for a year... I actually talked to some people about this, bc that's where I want to end up. They told me that you can start early in year three and formally submit on the 33rd or 32nd month (whatever it is). You should contact the board and ask to get a case worker if you're within that year. Let us know what happens.... I'd really like to know. For now, my plan is to apply to one of the 1 year states after this year, FL after year 2, and GA when I can.... that way, I'll have some way to keep the rain off of my head while I wait.

It is a good bet they allow you to apply in your 11th month of internship. That is if you have part 3 in order. That is what I did but you do have to have an interview in Madison Wisconsin because I was a ross grad. I am not sure if it applies to US grads. Very inexpensive and helped me moonlight at a VA during residency.

Hey, I have a couple of ?'s if you don't mind.

Were you doing your residency in WI?

Did you have to carry your own insurance to moonlight at the VA?

Did you have to have a state license to work for the VA, or is it just step 3?
