So this morning i decided to put a security deposit on avie's ville new apartments for a single... it came recommended... so this lady tries to put it thru on my credit card and the transaction doesn't happen... she says she's gonna keep trying... then later i get a call from my bank's fraud department saying that something wierd is going on... i explain about my security deposit n he's like ok fine but there's also a 3000 US$ transaction and then im like ... WHAT?!... so yeah all is good but, i think im going to stick to traveller's cheques and scope out the aparments on the housing tour...
warning: don't trust anyone with your credit card number- obviously.

It sux that that happened to you already.Every single person you give your credit card to,with the excepton of tinas is going to keep the number. They know when we leave the island and put minor charges on there. It happened to me and every one I knew.Little things like 40 bux in gas.I realized mines was bein charged there after Miami when I saw the statement it said petrol somthing. There aint no petrol i detroit. My advice is the month you are ready to leave, report the card as lost. You be havin a new card with a new number waiting for you when you get home.
I wish you all the best down there. Please be safe.

They will call Mr. Cash because my CCs (except 1 emergency card) are going to sleep over the 16 months on the island.

your supposed to send a secured bank draft to the Housing Office, and the draft in the name of the landlord..thats pretty much your best bet
also..ive never had to use any of my personal cards here so i cant see why you'd need to either..when you get here, open an account on campus, it will be a checking acct; the bank here has a SWIFT number that your home bank will use to send a direct deposit..takes about 24 hours..and then the only thing youll need is your dominican debit card..which you can cancel before you leave.

I would do as Indiansurprise. Once you get on the island you pretty much need a local bank account. If not your credit card numbers will be flying around all over.
I've heard of some merchants charging your credit card without converting to US dollars.
An EC dollar is only worth $0.37 US.

Relax Manny, the owner and manager of Avies Ville wouldn't have done that on purpose. I'm sure it was a mistake and will be easily reversed.
The first time I ate out at a restaurant (Blue Bay) my first two days inin Dominica I used my credit card. They accidentally put too many zeros into the machine and my credit car rejected the whole purchase (and was locked by the credit card security). I didn't have any cash in my wallet so I told the owner that I would come back the next day to pay it. They said, "no problem", and I paid them the next day. I had to call up my credit card company to ge them to re-open my card. You know that thing that says "Call Collect of out of the US". Well I did and that call must have cost them a fortune because they kept my on hold for a long time.
Anyways, mistakes do happen outside the US when they aren't used to people paying that way. They will reverse it and it won't be a problem.

i *could* describe it to you...but its sooo much better to experience it for yourself
i was unaware of this..and one day wandered in because i was getting bored of the library and classroom 1 was still being used for a few more hours...oh boy...that was an eye-opening and olfactory deadening experience

one day just turn out the lights in there and tape a sign on the door that says "fumigating, closed for 2 weeks" then take some febreeze... a lot of febreeze and just wile out... that should take care of things...

I will guess:
Multi-Purpose Lab
indiansurprise

its an old lab thats been converted into study space..and since its permanent study space..theres no reason for people to remove theyre stuff on a nightly basis like the classrooms or the library..and thus..you can find anything and everything in there
