Here is a tip to save some money on calls: Instant messangers are offering free talking feature (from computer to computer). I checked AOL, MSN messanger and Google Talk - all of them for free, the only thing you have to do is download/install one of the messengers to your computer and have speakers & microphone ready.

It would be even better to get a IP USB voice over phone system. That is really cool and FREE. All you have to do is by the equipment and have a good internet connection.

MSN is pretty awesome with their voice/video chat feature...u just have to have a good internet connection. vonage might be the best way to go though, they give you a US # as well as a monthly flat rate for all calls to the US/Canada. just remember to set everything up in the US before you get here, because its a pain to try to get everything running being on island.

I've been using Packet8 for about 2 years. It is dependable, cheaper than Vonage, and does not require a static IP. If anybody is interested in it, check out their website. Any questions about my experience with them, pm me. And like AmericanIMG says, you have to get it in the states and bring it with you.

SKYPE.COM is good too, definitely check that one out. that way people from home do not have to be on their computers, they can call using any phone and you can call them on any number.
just need headphones and microphone. around $30 for a phone number for a year and all incoming calls are free thru your computer and about $0.03-0.05 a minute for outgoing calls to the US...and i never use this but it might be around $0.30 a minute for local calls, which is the same as using a digicel phone here.
there is no monthly fee (or contract?) like vonage or lingo, just the $30 up front for a year. see for yourself.

It seems that Yahoo Voice is really cheap for only 2.49 a month for a phone number for the computer. You should check it out.
