What is involved in starting a rotation? I understand you set each rotation up through Jersey, but what then? Do you just show up on the day Ross tells you to and start? OR does EACH hospital have there own paperwork you need to fill out or does the school take care of all that? Do you need to "apply" to each hospital?
I'm trying to make the '08 match and leave as much time for studying after Miami as possible... that said, the red tape between rotations may be a factor. Thank you in advance.

I know for my kid when ROSS set up his CORE rotations they emailed him a ton of paperwork for each location. Some are more stringent then others when it come to the medical requirements etc ie: vacainations. The paperwork also included the time and location to report and a contact person at the hospital. Sincein most cases you will be setting up your own electives make sure your ROSS advisor knows where and when you will be and ask the Education person at the hospital for all requirements and paperwork. Also, if you want a letter of recomendation inthe electives make sure the Dooctor in charge knows that.'
Good luck

Usually, something is either emailed to you, or you just show up the first day and the paperwork is given to you in person. Usually, for longer more intensive rotations, such as Internal Medicine and Surgery, you go through an orientation, so that is what you do during your first day. It is very common also to be on call on your first day! Most of the "official" paperwork is taken care of by Ross. The stuff you will receive by the Student Co-ordinator is locker rotation, or HIPAA paperwork etc...
It's also good to ask other's who've done the rotation (i.e. keep in touch with your senior students) so that they can give you the low down on specific rotations and hospital sites!

I was wondering if someone could answer this:
If you are in charge of setting up your own electives, what does it take to set up an elective at a hospital in your hometown that you really want to do rotations at that Ross has no connections with? Is it all about who you know there & the hookups? Or, can I just call the hospital & ask & they will accept me? I mean, I am just curious if you don't have any hookups, would you be able to do rotations at that hospital?

you are "supposed " to be assigned rotations to start within a week or so of sending in a passing USMLE score to your clinical advisor. Of course in many/ most cases you don't do all your CORE rotations in a row but have to fill in with Elective rotations that you arrange for yourself. many students actually wind up taking either or both USMLE 2ck or 2cs before they finish their core rotations. The rason is the lack og ob/gyn and peds ACGME rotations.
