how much does it normally cost to eat per day provided you dont cook...lets say four meals (eg: chicken burger w/ fries and drink)

i heard living in grandcaymans is expensive...$7 for milk

just trying to estimate how much i'll be spending

lets says a chicken burger with fries, eventhough i havetn seen a chicken burger around. the cheapest hamburger with fries i;ve seen is at wendy's and burger king. Same prices as in the US but remember to add the conversion rate. One cayman dollar = 1.25. most other places, restuarant type places ranges from 7 bucks to 12 bucks a plate

Hi,

I just read your post and I recommend that you learn how to cook before coming to med school...and I am not trying to sound judgemental...just trying to look out for your best interest...take my advice as I am finishing my 5th semester in Cayman currently...

In all honesty, if you eat out all the time in Grand Cayman, one of two things will happen:

1. You will go broke from spending about 20-30 CI dollars a day from eating outside...
Ex. There is a place called "Eats Cafe/Legendz bar" right next door to school...the food is ok, I guess...the minimum price that you will spend there is $10 CI for lunch because almost everything is $8.95 CI on the menu, whether you get a chicken sandwich, hamburger, quesdilla, etc.

You could eat fast food and save money, but then you will have to compromise your health...

2. You will gain alot of weight from eating outside food...

Solution?? I would go to Foster's once or 2x a week and see what they have on weekly sales...today, they had canned tuna for 49 cents and Yoplait yogurt for 59 cents...I always buy alot of their fruits and veggies and make various salads...if you like rice, then you could bring a rice cooker from home and just buy some cheap rice (I recommend Basmati) and then cook it one day and make enough for 3 or 4 days...healthy and student-friendly :)

Hope this helps and I wish you all the best in med school!! PM me if you have any questions...

That's from 1998 so it is 8 years outdated. If you look in the New Resident guide you get with your acceptance packet you can see general prices on page 55. We also have a link to the guide on our website under Cayman Island Links.

At prices like that, it would be better if I ship my brewing equipment down and make it myself ( it cost about 20 cents per beer) Only problem: I need a stove and a cool dark spot.

Wholesale place = last transaction on Carebear's credit card statement...

Priced Right is good if you need like 6 cans of pringles or 50 granola bars (which I do). They have some pretty good deals and some stuff that is about the same price. The only thing that they really save you a lot of money on is cokes and other soft drinks. If you drink coke, buy it by the case at priced right.

On a more important note: what is the cost of liquor and beer in the island?
at the liquor store its...
case of Corona about $35CI
liter captain morgan $28CI
liter local rum $20

i dont drink much else but over all a little more than in the states, so buy at the duty free shops in the airport every trip here. only problem is that you can only bring a liter thru customs without having to pay duty. make sure all friends or family that visit stock up for you.
