Pre-Med Question: What is the Pre-Med 1 & Pre-Med 2???

Hello all,

I was in the process of applying to the Pre-Med program for September 2007 entry. I am due However, I was reading over the threads and saw people referring to Pre-Med 1 and Pre-Med 2....I thought there was only one Pre-Med program with 2 semesters consisting of 6 courses. Can anyone please clarify this?

I have a BScN and currently doing my Masters degree w/ a 3.5 GPA. I am an RN...and have been successfull in past life sciences courses...but I do lack physics & chem....

Can anyone take some time to clarify this??

Pre-med I....three courses (Medical Terminology, Anatomy&physiology I, and General chemistry)....1st semester.
Pre-med II....three courses (Org/Bio-Chemistry, Anatomy&physiology II, and Intro to cell Biology)....2nd semester.
If you are applying to September 2007 I think that you have enough time to finish up your requirements and then be able to start Med I instead of Pre-med I or II........Just a thought!

Physics at MUA....recommended...not required.
If you are missing Chem I & II + Organic I & II. Then the only way to Get into Med I in September 2007 is to attend Summer classes at your home town since you gotta have Chem I & II before you can take Organic. However, the Pre-med program would always be an excellent option.

PS: you can substitute Organic with Biochemistry with School permission.

Can anyone take some time to clarify this??

I would strongly recommend for you to call the school to discuss the matter and check out your options. People at Gardner will be very happy to help you.( look up contact information on MUA web-site ).

Does anyone know if courses within a given pre-med semester can be mixed, so that I will only do one pre-med semester instead of two.

For example, would it be possible to take 'Principles of General Chemistry', 'Advanced Organic Chemistry', and 'Introduction to Cell Biology' ???

Have you seen it done before? Is it possible? Are they flexible??

I dont think thats possible. You can't mix and match courses but an existing student can perhaps verify this. Plus, Its always a best idea to contact administrative office in Gardner, MA and talk to them directly about your situation.

See the threads, It may be a good idea to do premed at MUA since previously, ppl who have done premed were already adjusted to the island by the time they began MED Plus, did better.

But thats just what I think Plus as its mentioned by other ppl in their threads. Premed or not...MUA is an excellent choice as now they even have NY under their belt :)

I am sure they are flexible in that way...I don't see why they would hold people to both semesters unnescesarily and make them live there and pay that kind of money for both living and tuition...people would definately be turned off by that. Email them and let them know your exact situation, MUA seems like a very cool place...

i am almsot possible that is a No. they are set classes, all semesters are set classes and curriculum. I didn't have orgo and wanted to do orgo pre med 2 and they said that they cover some orgo in pre med 1 so that isn't possible, so they just admitted me to MED sept and I will complete orgo over the summer.

Oh! and just thought you should know... Pre Med i was told, is for individuals lacking in sciences generally or did not do well and need to retake it. I was missing courses and told to finish in the summer then MED in sept bc my grades were to high! go figure!..

You have to finish general chem before going on to ochem/biochem. If you have taken some of the premed I courses they won't make you retake them unless you did poorly. There were people in my premed I class that were taking some I and some of the II. Hope this helps.

so you ARE able to mix the courses up ? is that what the last post meant? b/c some are saying that you cant mix and match courses

What I ment by mixing courses is for example, if you have taken general chem but not A&P or medterm, they will put you in biochem (premedII) and the rest of premed I. You can't take general chem and biochem at the same time. And it all depends when the classes you want to mix are taught. Schedules havent come out yet. I hope this is clear now

Students have, in the past, mixed and matched courses from different semesters. Whether its been done with pre-med courses, I dont remember. However, a lot of it depends on scheduling. If for example, you needed Intro to cell bio, but also A&P1, and they were both running at the same time or overlapping, well you'd be out of luck.

Call the school and find out, but the schedule for the following semester usually isnt released until shortly before that semester begins.
