View Full Version : Neurology Clerkship required for medical licensure??!!

Recently I was told that all non-US graduating MDs must have a minimum 4-week NEUROLOGY clerkship in order to be licensed to practice medicine in about 15 states including TX, VA, CO, MD, MN, PA, WA, etc.
This requirement is said to be so stringent that the license will be mercilessly denied even if you've finished your US residency program, because your transcripts does not show a 4-week Neurology clerkship during your medical school! Plus, you cannot go back to "make up" a clerkship after the time of your graduation from your medical school.
Can anyone advise me the truthfulness of this ... thanx.

TX has done away with neurology requirement as far as I know. I haven't heard it absolutely required by other states. Even when TX required it, it was OK to make it up after graduation, during residency.

careful i haven't heard of texas giving that up OR allowing it during residency. I may be wrong but id check to be sure about this. i havent known any other state to require this but again, may be wrong.

THANKS, Stephew, Picard, and Miasma, for your input/comments.
I am graduating from a good Carribean school. I have already matched this year and have done all the 72-week rotations. If this rule were true, the only "make up" time that I have got is from now till June 30. Looks like I dont need to consider doing it... Thanks again!
