B1 Requirements for clinical?!

I am a Canadian citizen I wonder if someone could explain what document(s) do I need to apply for B1? How does it work? How long does it take? and finally how long is it valid for? Thanks a million!

If the B1 is for your clinical rotations in the US, then ask your school to write you a letter detailing the dates and locations of your rotations and then provide this letter to the customs official you see before you take your flight/drive across the border. Explain to them that you are an FMG who needs a B1 for clinical rotations. Usually you get one without any hassle.

I'm a Canadian and I can enter US without a visa for upto 6 months. If I want to rotate in US for only 5 months, do I even need to bother with a B1 Visa??

Technically speaking you need a B1 for clinicals because you're not in the US for personal reasons, but often US immigration lets you slip by on a 6 month visitor's visa. I'm Canadian too and have flown back home several times during clinicals, and each time when I arrive back in the US I get asked different questions, sometimes I have to show the letter, sometimes not, sometimes I get a B1, sometimes not . . . but all in all you shouldn't have any hassle getting across the border as long as you have the letter in hand and can explain that you're not in the US to work.
