I have a question concerning the legal status when applying for a residency:
I married a US citizen recently and filed for adjustment of status. Technically I can apply for a job once I get my work permit right? But the question is - will residency programs consider my application without me having the green card in hand? Because the attorney told us that the waiting period is between 15 and 18 months now.
Has anyone on this forum been in a situation like that?
Thanks.

As long as you get your EAD in time, I don't think you will have a problem. The best answer I can give is to consult an immigration lawyer. Check ur PM; I've sent u a link to another website that deals more specifically with immigration issues for physicians.
Once you have your working permit and your social security number it is ok.

Thanks guys, your input is much appreciated.
I just needed some reassurance since all the waiting is making me a little anxious and raises a lot of questions in my head :?:
Can you kindly send me also website that deals more specifically with immigration issues for physicians in response to Venus re work permit and residency. Thank you in advance. God bless

VENUS, make sure when you file for your change of status file for 'Work Permit' as well which is a separate form and has a fee of something like $190.00 may be more now. By doing this you will get work permit almost immediately or within 90 day. If you will not do this (not file for work permit) then you need to wait for EAD which will be availble after your file is approved. Exactly how it happen to my relative but since it is almost 2 years so best advise is contact an immigration attorney OR call the 1-800 number of USCIS which is available on their web site. Regards,..
