Hey guyz,
I just received my acceptance package in the mail for Premed 1 for September 2006. Although its conditional upon completion of my credits ending April 06 but I am happy that now things are up to me to work hard.

Anyone else accepted for Sept 06 (Premed 1), PLease post here.

Thanks guyz..>This forum has been a great support to me in answering all the questions and I want to also thank "tmcnam" for all his valuable advices.

Oh about my interview: It went well. It sounded like they had made a decision already and the questions were basically the same as mentioned in "Interview Thread" So anyone who has upcoming interviews, do refer to that and just be yourself...Its very relaxed. Dont be nervous.

Seems like dreams are coming true :) - Also the time to buckle down :)

Mine is not the greatest though i do have some clinical work. Hey Lost...Don't worry, Just wait for your interview to come. I am in your position as well, however i am finishing the requirement in April06 and seeking admission in Sept. 06. Finishing in Aug and starting in Sept. may be a long shot but you should also speak with admissions about that. I know that for Sept, they require my tuition by Jul 15th...Plus, counting other factors such as loan (application, processing etc. etc)...I wanted to give myself 4 months to wrap up all the stuff @ home here before I depart for the good coming 28 months in Sept. So just do your calculations (about time) and see if it suits else they may automatically put you or recommend you Jan 07 in that case.
Also, mine is a provisional acceptance upon completion of pending courses successfully...So I would assume yours to be the same scenario should everything go ok. Gpa wise, If you are motivated and show steady improvement, that'll help. Mine isnt the greatest @ the moment, I am at 2.7 but hope to finish with 2.8 atleast by the end of april 06...
Do note that to progress from Premed to Med, you require a minimum 3.0 but I do understand that some people who started in premed and now in med were able to maintain 4.0 throughout with determination.

Good luck and stay positive!!!

Thanks alot Taare for the feedback it helps alot. Yea your right it is along shot because my summer class wont end till a week before september. it would be rushed. jan 07 , i dont have much of a problem with, i just dont feel like waiting for 4 months till jan with nothing to do. But i guess Ill be happy if i get in period. I sent in my documents 2 days ago im pretty sure they havent even gotten it but Just out of curiousity how long did it take for them to review the app and respond? with an interview or any other type of acceptance?

If you have visited the Mua SGA (Student govenment website)..i think its www.muasga.com
You can download the current books being used by ISBN# and buy them and maybe start reviewing them. Thats what I plan to do after i am done my courses. Refresh my self in chem and other subjects. And remember Stay positive!!!

Hey Shiekh

I applied to Pre-med for September and since you have completed it and are now in Med, I just want to know how Pre-med was like for you. Was it really difficult, were you studying 24/7? I'm just curious. Actually, I have my interview tommorrow, just feeling a little nervous. Hopefully, everything will go fine. Take care and good luck in Med. :)

Howdy,

I am preparing my application this weekend for PRE-MED Sept. 06: I have some questions and I will appreciate if some one can answer.

STATS: I have a 2 year degree in general science discipline with a GPA of 3.2This degree has total of 60 credit hours. I had straight A’s in all of my chemistry, Physics and Math courses. After getting this degree I have also finished another 42 credit hours of GENERAL CORE requirements towards a 4 ** degree which is required here in Texas. So the total credit hours I have are 102.

Following is the course by course details of the pre med courses that I had in my degree:

Chemistry (organic I&II:Inorganic I&II) 16 credit hours
Physics: 12 credit hours
Math: 12 credit hours
ENG: 12 credit hours

Don’t have one year of BIO.

QUESTION: from this thread I know some of the students got accepted directly into PRE-MED II instead of PRE-MED I. Based on my stats do I need to apply to PRE-MED I and then admissions committee will move me up into PRE-MED II ........or I explicitly need to check Pre-Med II.

Thank ya all in advance !!

I am a 24 yo female. I am a Registered nurse. I got accepted for premed I. Someone from the program told me that they were just trying to get $ out of me and I need to ask about premed II instead. I'm confused on what to do. I am excited to get the oppurtunity to go to med school. I just need to know if it's worth dealing with the issue or not. I do not have Organic Chem. I was wondering if that had something to do with it. I am also looking for a
roomate. I would prefer to choose my roomate through this site instead of letting them choose one for me.;)

The problem is really your missing Organic 1, if you had at least one semester of organic or mayb even biochemistry i'm sure they will put you into premed 2. Did you fillfull the other prereqs like 1 year of inorganic and bio?

butterfly24

I have one semester of biochemistry. I also have one year of biology, and general chemistry with the labs. My grades aren't great, but I did earn a degree and have been working in the field for a year and a half. I think because of my grades, they feel I need to prove myself in premed I & II. Just don't want the money spent for no good reason besides the fact that they want more money from me. I am confused to how they pick which category you fall in.

If its been a while since you attended school, it may actually be worth starting from premed1 as it'll be a nice refresher and as sheikh1 mentioned above that premed 2 is harder, it might be better to flow in to premed2 as you'll be settled in the island...Just my thought :)

You are probably right about it being easier to adjust to studying in premed I. I have not studied in quite a while and will need some time to adjust to studying and life on the island. I am just excited about being accepted to med school. I want to thank you all for your responses.

i got in for Med 1 sept 2006 with no organics. just have to complete them this summer with C+ or better. So I doubt its the organic thing. Sometimes its just grades that affect your placement

i think starting in pre-med I is good for those who either dont have the best grades in the basic sciences or havent been in school in quite a while.. it is only a few months extra and it seems like they give u a good foundation to begin the basic sciences.. the classes are also taught by the basic sciences professors so i hear, and it gives u time to get used to the island life, being away from home etc..

congrats to all of those who were accepted!!!

I too was recently accepted into Pre-med 1 for Sept. 06'. 24yr/old Female from Lancaster, Pa., between blueball and intercourse.....Amish country...I'm not Amish, of course!
The interview went very smoothly......like most people already stated, it seemed they made up their minds about admitting me before the interview took place. Just be calm...I took previously asked interview questions from the interview sticky and prepared answers for them....wasn't totally necessary, but made me feel more at ease. And, usually at the end of the interview you'll hear a phrase such as: "we'll see you on the island" or "we'll be sending out your acceptance packet as soon as possible".;)
Good Luck to those of you who are applying/interviewing!

AUA premed is longer than MUA. Mua's is only 2 semesters. I believe AUA has a 4 semester premed. Secondly, MUA just got NY approval. Has a proven track record and is the same management as SABA. For me I didnt want to spend any longer in premed + its a better reputed school.

SurgeonIN10years
04-16-2006, 01:12 PM
I would say without a doubt MUA hands down. AUA has no proven track record. Additionally, i suspect AUA may have problems down the road due to the fact that they are able to complete their 5th semester in Miami FL. Although that does sound very appealing- the chance to come back into the states after only 4 semesters of island life, BUT as far as i know, the entire basic sciences curriculum must be completed in the country which the charter is given. In AUA's case, their charter is in Antigua, so they can not offer any courses in the states without violating some rules/laws. See St. Chris Univ. for a good reason why one should not attend a school who's charter is in one country, while classes are offered in another.

Also- AUA is much more expensive than MUA. MUA now has NY approval, plus tons of residents in most specialties, many licensed grads, more clinical sites... etc

MUA by far.

Yes you can defer, call Gardner, MA and talk to them about it. I know of one girl this semester in pre med that deferred until this semester. Good luck!

My best advice is to read these forums as much as you can, and take a trip down to visit the school/island if you are able to!

Any specific questions? Id be happy to answer them if I can, i am going to be in pre med 1 starting sept and I have visited the island already and am going back in a few weeks for a second trip!!

hey....definately read and use the interview sticky on the main page...that has pretty much ALL the questions they will think to ask you...and just relax and be yourself...the interview is run by two people and they make it into a conversation and not an interview where questions are thrown at you...then they'll ask if you have any questions about the school/island and what do you know about the school...thats not a trick question its really a chance for them to tell you about their program, etc...Good luck!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I am not starting this semester and not sure about the future as well as far as med schooling. I was in a wreck on last memorial day weekend in which I totaled my car, initially I was feeling good with a just little bruised hand but next day I started feeling problems in my neck and back and I am still under treatment. Overall I am doing well and and have started my job as well, but I still need to continue my physical therapy till I recover 100%.

I got hit by a person who had no driver's license, no insurance and was an illegal alien. Cops just handed over him a citation and that's about it.

I wish every one of you a good luck.

MUA, Premed students...must maintain your GPA of 3.0 from Premed1 to Premed2 in order to go to Med 1 program. Hardworking will pay off.
