Here to negate the above post

I am practicing IM because I want to, not because I applied for a bunch of fellowships and didn't get them. Many of my classmates are in subspecialties. One of my old roommates is an anesthesiologist, the other is a nuclear cardiologist. A guy I know from residency, an AUC grad, is an intensivist at the hospital where we did residency. A Ross grad I know from residency is a successful rheumatologist. My children were delivered by an AUC grad...he is considered one of the best OBs at the hospital, most of the doctors go to him. I found out he went to AUC when he delivered my second child. I never bothered to ask where he went to school. I can go on and on. I know of noone I went to school with who isn't in practice. I know lots of people in subspecialties. Your sister is dead wrong. G

As Dr. G says all above, you would be surprised to see that there are so many caribb med grads all over the Uinted States. One of my OB/GY attending was a saint George grad who was not only competant but also humble and pleseantly approachable. As a matter of fact, 9 out of 10 residents from his team were foreign grads.

I have seen at least two AUC grads internal med residents at this hospital and one from saba.

Do the search engine on physician's directory at any major US hospitals and there are significantly probable chances that you would see AUC diplomas on thier credentials. Michigan's Providence med center has at least 5 physicians with AUC diplomas.

The Medical community has become overwhelmlingly diverse in their physicians' pool......It will be even more in the future or less. I am not certain.

do some research before posting stuff like this. if you REALLY wanted to become a doctor, you would be researching and getting the real info before making untrue remarks, and taking other's "advice" as true without any evidence. there are plenty of caribb grads working in the states, many of these are canadians. some are in fp (because they want to), and some are in other specialties such as anes, surg, IM, and i even know a canadian who is in neurosurg res right now. don't think everything you hear is true. find out by yourself. good luck.

so why dont people lead a relaxed life in university without having to deal with the volunteering, lack of social life, constant studying, etc that the stereotypical pre-med student has to go through.. and just go to the carribbean?

What is it you think people do? Caribbean med students do the same things US med students do....only it's always hot. You think we just went to some island, hung out, drank frozen drinks with little umbrellas? Somehow, when we sit for the boards we miraculously pass, despite taking time to peel our sunburned skin while taking the exam wearing sunglasses? Come on. G
