    Lecture Hall, Campus Facilities, etc.

    Hey guys!

I have a couple of questions that I haven't seen asked or answered while searching through past posts. If they've been answered before, I apologize in advance. Thanks!

#1) Are the lecture halls laptop-friendly? i.e. are there electrical outlets by each seat, or do the first 4 people in swarm to those seats like OU Sooners to a helpless quarterback, forcing everyone else to drain their batteries? Should a notebook with a longer-lasting battery be a big consideration?

#2) I read that you guys burn the days lecture notes right before classes start. In your daily laptop use, would the benefits of an internal 3 1/2 floppy drive's outweigh the extra weight of lugging it around and taking up one of your optical drives? (Do classmates generally pass around study guides they've created on 3 1/2'ers? ) I plan on getting one to supplement a CD-RW -- just haven't decided on an internal or external.

#3) Since the computer lab's the only place at school with connectivity, are there extra ethernet spots for notebooks to connect to the internet in the when all the computers are being used?

#4) I realize that the French side uses 220 V, and the American side uses 110 V. I would assume from the name of the school, we won't need
need voltage converters for our electrical appliances. But I just thought that I'd ask.......

#5) Are there any other pictures of the lecture halls, library, student lounges, study places, cafeteria, etc. worth posting? I have a vague idea of what AUC's campus looks like. During a quick study break if you guys wouldn't mind...

    Once again, Thanks!

    some answers

    1. Our lecture halls are basically state of the art and YES, they're laptop friendly (LOTS of outlets).

    2. Most of the profs put all the material for an exam on disk for you to burn at once so you dont have to worry about getting notes daily.

    3. Yes, there are extra spots in the computer lab for notebooks/laptops.

    4. There should be lots of pics on AUCs website. You have to look around. If you are still curious, let me know and I can take some for you myself. PM me with your email addy.

    I hope this helps,
    Todd

    ...

uh... are we attending the same school Todd? In the dungeon lecture hall that I'm stuck in all day, there isn't that many outlets unless you're willing to string your cord into the aisle and trip someone(not necessarilly a bad thing). Not many people use their laptops religiously around here. I use mine mainly to listen to mp3s and watch movies. Occasionally, I'll study Anatomy and Embryo on it.

btw, State of the art=chairs, and flat surfaces called desks.

First semester teachers are not exactly the greatest in getting the digital copies(eg. powerpoint files, etc) of the lecture notes to you before they lecture about it. You will get to buy the printed out copies of the lectures beforehand though. I only know of 1-2 other people in my class who use their computers during lectures FOR NOTETAKING PURPOSES(all the rest just watch movies on it).

There is no wi-fi network and file sharing will not work on the school networks. Remember, this is a med school and not much more.
Finally beat Super Mario Bros within 7 mins.

    computers

not a lot of outlets but usually enough. also not all profs put their notes up there 1st semester but 3/4 do in 2nd and from here on. i haven't seen a 3.5 drive in two years and none here..hehe everything is on cd or get a usb flash card 68MB is only 30 bux and you canb share notes and everything without the extra drive or buring any cd's. botton libe you will not use your lap top all the time nor will it be notes all the time it depends on the professor but most have notes on cd at the library. later
