I called and asked for pass rates nad my advisor had no idea what I was talking about. I felt like what the hell am I dealing with here a circus. I mean if an advisor doesn't know what pass rates means and is working at a medical school that I am interested in what that does that say about the school, other than it really needs some major help. So good luck to all that attend AUC it really does seem like a cool island and all but I need to learn something!
i appreciatte your frustration but you cant say that you dont learn anything at AUC. good luck wherever you have been accepted.

I have had a fair bit of trouble with my LOR's at MEAS, but I kind of knew before hand that the admission's advisors or whatever it is at MEAS tend to have problems, but I knew about possible problems ahead of time, so I am not holding it too much against the school. I wish it wouldn't have happened, but whatever.

I had problems with LORS as well. I had to have them sent 3 times for variety of reasons but like everybody says here, it's not that big of a deal really.
Just get accepted and most of the rest of the med school experience will go through much better.

Well, finally all my stuff is in order for my application to be reviewed they told me. I think that LOR's were finally found or got there. I sent my app in November along with everything but LOR's and unfortunately they had trouble for some reason with my LOR's as you may know. Anyhow, I am happy now, and now I just got to wait and find out what is going to happen.

For those of you who had problems with MEAS, while I do feel your pain somewhat, I wonder how you'll ever adjust to life on an Island... First of all, I went to a top 25 university, and even they had their share of problems when it came to getting certain things done (rec letters, tuition, etc..) simply because the school was run by humans who, well, can make human mistakes. If you really feel AUC is completely disorganized, how do you explain the 3500 or so practicing physicians who successfully went through the application process and educational system at AUC? So what they lost a few letters or mixed up a transcript here and there.. Even if they implemented six sigma training to their workers, they'd still be allowed to make a few mistakes!

If you really observe MEAS, or any other business for that matter, without your personal biases (obviously people get pissed, ie react emotinoally, when they're not properly serviced) you'd see that it's pretty much your average organization with its own successes and failures. If you order your steak medium-well at Morton's Steakhouse and receive it well-done, it doesn't make Morton's a bad restaurant... they messed up your order, that's all. AUC and Morton's aren't the same type of business obviously, but remember, AUC IS a business after all...

I don't mean to sound mean or anything, but if you're whining from now, just wait until you're on the island for a couple months..

LET'S TRY AND START MORE CONSTRUCTIVE THREADS... I really believe AUC, SGU and Ross all have the potential to be as respected as some lower-tiered American med schools... especially given their track-record and large body of successful alumni.. we need to quit whining about the less significant, very person-specific problems, and focus on wider, university-specific issues (like the Library, continual improvement of facilities, ensuring these schools could meet LCME accreditation standards if needed, etc...)..

and yes, i posted this twice, (also in the May 06 thread)

people tend to get hung up on LORs and stuff like that and in the long run it means nothing.....If people were productive half as muchas they complain our pass rate would be 98%.....

I wasn't complaining, well for the most part. I was just saying that I needed to stay on top of both my professors and AUC's admission's office to make sure things worked out. You don't want to irritate them (I got along fine with my admissions advisor), but you need to stay on top of things. For those of us who no longer are by their undergraduate institution, it is more of a headache than it usually would be, so it can be quite difficult to coordinate if you have problems. But, I wasn't really shocked or anything about what happened because I had heard about problems like this before at AUC, and much of everywhere else actually. I just posted on this so others on here could see that if you just be polite and stay on top of stuff, even if you have problems for whatever reason, you should be able to get it worked out. There are exceptions to this, but they are rare. Good luck everyone.

On the flip side, I really have nothing to complain about the admissions process. My counselor was very courteous and got to me promptly with my admissions information and always answered my dumb questions cheerfully.

Just never send anything regular mail.
