    AUC's MCAT Policy???

Anyone know about AUC's MCAT Policy? I haven't taken the MCAT, and don't plan on it, but I have completed all of the requirements for Med School. Just wondering exactly what is AUC's MCAT Policy? Because I heard that you can actually get accepted without submitting an MCAT score. The only catch is, that you have to take it while you are a student at AUC to be considered "official" and that AUC makes preparations for you to take the MCAT once you have already started classes there. If anyone could advise that would be great!

    NO

I think that was an old policy. I am pretty sure you must have taken it and turn in your score to them before they will process your app. There is even talk about a min of 20 to be accepted but that is not offically, and people are being accepted with lower scores. But I am almost postive you at least have to have taken it to get in.

    Never heard of that one

From what I understood, MCAT was required for admission, period.

    Required...

While doing an OBGYN rotation in michigan i got to the director who is an influental member of AUC. He stated there are plans if not in place already that will require minimum MCAT 20 and min GPA of 2.5. Also there was talk of if students have very good mcat scores they would be offered a scholarship. The idea is to gain competitve advantage over other caribbean schools.

    MCAT required.

No way around it. Just do it. They require it and if you do not do it you WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED for admission. I took it in August and got a 26 (8 verbal, 9 phys. science, 9 bio. science) I also took it without having O Chem and had only been in school for one year after a nine year hiatus from academics. So anything is possible if you just prepare for it.
    Good luck.

How are you not planning on taking the MCAT?

Even if they let you, doing decent on it while here is not a realistic option. I can't imagine having to study for the MCAT while in Med school. With the exception of a little bit of biochem, none of the first semester stuff would help you anyway. You don't want to have to blow off anatomy and biochem because you're studying physics or practicing efficent ways to read art history for the verbal section...

If for no other reason, take the test just so you can throw out a few applications to US schools too.

    me

I got in with a 21, and 11 of those points went to the verbal section. Sit for it and do your best, but I don't think the MCAT makes or breaks too many applicants. I have chosen to attend another carib school, but just to let you know my AUC MCAT experience.

    MCAT

If taking the MCAT stresses you don't waste your time in applying or rather attending AUC or med school for that matter. You will find the course load demanding and not a blow off should you come. Take the test it is not that big a deal in the overall scheme.

    MCAT

Go to the AAMC website for MCAT. Go to Google type in MCAT and the first hit is the MCAT page of AAMC. You can take a practice test for free (3R) that gives you detailed feedback about the questions providing info on your strong points and wek points. For $85 bucks (well worth it) you can take four tests. That is what I did and for the money I think it was the best money I spent to prepare for the test.
April is the time. Do it and be happy
People have gotten into AUC with 14,15,19,and 20's--pretty low scores, so right now it is just a formality. They just started requiring MCAT scores at AUC last March. So this is new.
