Quality of Professors

How about some opinions on the quality of professors at AUC? I understand they've tried to improve a lot of things in the past 2 years regarding professors? Also, how do the 1st termers feel about the professors? accessible? helpful?

heard some things from St. Chris students (transferrred there to AUC) that they are terrible. can't listen to just a few people for the idea of an entire i school, i know.....but just like to get some opinions.

Good, Bad....

First of all, a disclaimer - I think ANY medical school you attend, whether it be in the US or Caribbean will have some strong and some weak profs. I haven't been on the island in over 2 years, but here is what I thought:

Trotz - tough, but very fair - learned a lot in that class
Blevins - again, very tough, but damn, I am off the charts good in Physio!
Atchley - didn't learn much in her genetics/immuno class, but I hear they have changed that along with the Micro prof
Anatomy (taught by 3 profs) - fair. Not amazing, not bad.
Path - I personally didn't like Ascari, but you learned b/c you had to read and re-read Robbins path twice over!

By FAR the 2 weakest profs were for Neuro and Pharm.

Neuro's top-notch now. Genetics is a good class, well-taught in my opinion. Dr. Regan knows his stuff, and isn't a half-bad lecturer. Ascari's gone. Anatomy is now also top-notch. Just my personal opinions on some updates.

Anatomy: Taught by three professors. Dr. Colburn is AWSOME. The other two aren't bad, but sometimes hard to understand (ok, maybe more than sometimes), and they aren't great lecturers (although one did blow up a condom today in lecture to demonstrate the pericardial/pleural cavity).

Biochem: Trotz is good in my book. Barish isn't all that bad. he's not great, but not terrible by any means.

Embryo: Rogers is a nut. he's very high energy and i like him so far.

biostats: huh? what's that? we haven't had that class YET.

History of medicine: can't remember her name, but only had one class with her. She give out a TON of info in her lecture but you don't have any time to write stuff down. And her powerpoint "skills" suck.

We've only had classes for 2 weeks or so...so this list will change, i'm sure.

Anatomy

I'll agree on most of the points but I think Dr. Kamniak(sp?) isn't bad at all. I guess this is probably his first teaching gig so of course he'll be a bit nervous but you gotta love his powerpoint slides and the condom demonstration(he could have used a balloon instead but come on, you'll be telling your residents and attendings about that for years to come). I bet he spends 2-3 hours just making those(ppt slides, not condoms).

All in all, it seems like a typical set of teachers with some you'll like and some you can do without.

Biostats: my best class yet! I haven't missed one lecture!!!!!!

Ah yes, more reason why no one is going to complain about the class(at least not to the dean).
