Tranferring for clincals...a good idea?

I was speaking with a friend the other day here at Saba, and he told me a horror story (it was Halloween, after all).
He said that he had spoken to a couple of Saba students who missed the match because they had sit out an entire year to get some greenbook rotations. Now, I don't know if that is true, but I do know that certain greenbook rotations can be hard to get from Saba (pediatrics, for example).
I have spoken to at least two people who are considering transferring to AUC because they believe that it would be much easier to get greenbook clinicals (by specialty, not under a family practice umbrella).
Do current AUC students or alumni have an opinion on this? Should my friends with good grades transfer for clinicals?

Hey Wolfie,

I personally don't know of anyone who has transferred directly into AUC's clinical years...there was one individual who came from SGU who had allegedly passed their step I, however, they had to re-do the 5th sem at AUC before moving on to clinicals.

On a related note, SGU will not allow transfers into their clinical years.

Were there other factors causing your friends' wait, or is it just plain and simply the fact that there aren't enough greenbook sites/rotations for Saba students?

Aloha,

They need to speak with someone ASAP about that.... Normally, transferring may effect you getting licensed, but I don't know if that would look worse or if sitting out a year would...

I haven't heard of transferring affecting licensure. Since Saba is Cali-approved and all other states approved, I don't see how its gonna be a problem.

But then again, I don't see the reasoning behind transferring if u are just listening to the rumor mill.

I'm not sure what you're asking but put it this way. Any student who transfers for clinicals will be treated like any other student and given the same options for clinical placement. You can go stateside (may incur a small or large waiting period if picky) or you have the chance to goto equally good training sites in the UK.

Yes they do.....theres a med student on my team who transferred from SGU to ROSS for clinicals. She's a fellow connecticut person so she's cool (which has nothing to do with transferring)
