    coverage details

if anyone has some knowledge of the coverage that school insurance provides could you let me know. just like what the pay out is and all that stuff...i know the cost is like 233 a semester or something, but i guess what i am asking is what does that get you.
i have posted insurance threads before and i searched the other threads but...
i was going to look into alternative insurance seeing as my wife is coming with me--i checked IMG. any others that we might together get a better deal with rather than me pay for school insurance for myself and then somewhere else for her.
    insurance is fun.

to be honest the school insurance is a joke.....unless its changed. Basically it is a pot that everyone pays into.....X amount is removed for profit, etc. The rest of the money is used for the actual medical coverage of anyone under it.....basically this means if 1 student needs to be airlifted and covered for 20,000 all your premiums will go up and theres nothing you can do about it.....go with something else

I'm going with Bluecross. $661 CAD for one year of coverage (all diseases, accidents, etc.).

As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.

Is that the only thing we have to make sure our alternative insurance must have? Any other requirements?

You may or may not want to go this route, but here is what my hubby and I did.
He has the minimal school insurance because it's cheap and he never gets sick anyway. The kids and I don't have coverage because basic medical care here is so affordable. All of the global plans we looked into had a 1 year waiting period before coverage would start for me and didn't cover maternity costs - I am too bad with bc to risk paying all that premium for nothing.
If something does happen, provided I catch it in time and don't have to be airlifted, I can always go back to the states and get medic-Aid. I'm not sure what the money situation is for you, but with kids it's pretty tight here for us and I can't really afford coverage for all four of us.

Well, I just multiplied the figure given to me by the school (277 USD) by three semesters, and it would cost me 831 USD for one year's coverage. If I went with BLuecross, it is only $661 CAD (which is a significant difference).

How much are you paying for the minimal insurance at the school?

True, but if you needed medical care while on SXM, who would accept your Blue Cross insurance?
