Ok, so I am thinking about transfering to AUC, but with advance credit(s), as I am attending another (less established) med school in the Caribbean. Will I face a lot of hassles later on when applying to residency or licensure? Will I have to do something like get reference letters from all the professors who have ever taught me at my current school later on?

I am thinking of transfering b/c my school's clinical program isn't that great (they don't even let you do green books unless you're sure that you want to practice in a state that requires all green book). In general, is it a good idea to transfer in this scenario? By transfering I mean transfering to 2nd or 3rd semester as I have not completed BMS at my current school yet.

P.S. I am not transfering b/c i am doing badly at my school (I am currently on the dean's list).

transfering in your case would probably be a good idea since you are having problems with the program. in the past they have not accepted transfer credits from most other schools unless they were cali approved in order to prevent you having problems later on. what i know they have done is to allow you to take competency exam in each class to 'test out' however i only know one person who did this and only for anatomy and it was two years ago so you will need to ask if it is an option...this board is not a good source for official info like this you should contact miami and also check ross and saba's transfer policies...

well remember some states such as Cali, i believe, require all education to be done at a cali approved school so even transfering into AUC may still cause problems later on--

i would look into the states you are interested in and ask them to make sure they wont require some crazy material from your previous school

If you fail at AUC, SGU, or Ross why not transfer to SMU, if you fail at SMU, why not try another SMU.

I'm considering transfering from Saba (which is cali approved) to AUC. Will I have alot of hassles later on with my career?

its hard for any of us to say. i would imagine you might be questioned about why you transferred but as long as you have documentation showing you werent failing, etc and left bc you didnt want to live on a volcano anymore im sure it would all be considered

The answer to your question is YES. It can cause difficulties in becoming liscensed. I found this out when I contacted SGU about transferring from AUC to SGU. A gentleman from their office of admissions stated that SGU rarely takes transfers because when you're done, if you have 2 caribbean schools on your transcript it is very likely that you will have problems getting liscensed. If you are going to transfer anyway, do it during clinicals so that if you are questioned it doesn't look like you're transferring because of academic difficulty. Moreover, with all of the policy changes, good professors leaving, etc at AUC, I wouldn't risk transferring here during Basic Sciences if I were you.

Inaccurate responses like that are why you should always be very careful about taking advice on an internet forum without verifying for yourself directly with the licensing boards. Transferring does not cause that many licensing problems aside from more paperwork when you apply for your license. Always check with licensing officials in the states you're interested in over some "gentleman" from SGU, or from any other place for that matter.

Actually, StudentAUC is correct. It may not be a problem, but having two caribbean schools on your transcript CAN hurt you. Most PDs aren't familiar with seeing transfers. How many US med student transfer from one school to another? It will send up red flags. Why did this guy transfer? What kind of trouble did he have at his old med school that he had to go to a new one? Personality issues? etc. G
