Thanks for the fast responses. Keep 'em coming. I'm gonna go back to begging for money on the street corner. Sure the locals look at me funny, but then again i have a medical degree to pay for. Did you hear the one about the Grenada invasion of 1983? Apparently the med students threatened to pay back their loans.

Where to live
I am from the area- Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills are nice/ safe (I would look there first). Beverly Hills and Royal Oak are fine also. I think rrod gave some good advice.

advice
Thanks for the help everyone, but i was looking specifically for apartment complexes. I got the lowdown on the good/bad/ugly areas from a friend who lives there now. Do most AUC student there live in apts or houses? Sorry for being so specific, the response has been alot more than what i anticipated.
You know its kinda funny - we have students who go over to SXM for a quick vacation from med school. No, they're not spies, but i doubt anyone at AUC would come to Grenada for the same thing. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Check out
All the previous posts listed pretty good places to live, but also consider, for quality of living and affordable places check out Plymouth Township, Canton, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights. Nice apartment/condos there, easy access to major highways, and safe neighborhoods.

Southfield sucks. Let me repeat, southfield sucks. IF you like an equal mix of extreme Hasidic jews and gangsta rap, you will love southfield. Otherwise it sucks When I was doing rotations at prividence I lived at the Ramada Inn about 1/4 miule from the hospital ( where lots of students lived ) they had a monthly rate for I think 450$ ( mid 1990's ) It was OK if you like living in a hotel month to month and having gangsta rap contests next door to hasidic bah mitzvahs. To recap : southfield sucks. pontiac sucks Royal Oak, Troy, birmingham, farmington hills, rochester hills, bloomfield hills. these are fine and decent places to live. royal oak is my favorite, which is why I live there. Lots of bars. 10 minutes from southfield. Did I mention Southfield sucks? about the ONLY place worth living in Southfield are the apartments on telegraph in the 12 mile area. anything north of that is OK, cuz it isn't southfield any more PM me if you have specific questions |
