    license problem.

    hello.

i have heard that auc is not licensed in all 50 states. what kinda problems may that cause in the future after you graduate?

is it very important? You have chosen to go to this school, i am sure that you have a good understanding on this subject.

i like to apply to auc or saba, because they are so cheap. same eduction, why pay more.

    Re: license problem.

    your information is wrong.
I cannot tell you that grads are licensed in all 50 states. However, there are many licensed grads in New York, texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, and California----the toughest states to get licensure.
There is also a graduate that got licensed in Colorado...THE toughest state for IMG's

    AUC vs Saba

You will have more difficulty coming from Saba than you will from AUC. Saba does not require that all of its clinicals be done in greenbook hospitals (Greenbook = ACGME approved). At least, that was the case last I heard. Also Saba is not California approved. I have yet to hear of any of my colleagues having any problems with a license. G

    Re: AUC vs Saba

You may have to jump through a few extra hoops here and there, but licensure is possible nearly everywhere. We recently had a New York site visit for the possiblity of New York accredidation, and we hope to hear something back from them this month. No one has ever been approved by New York on the first site visit, from what I have heard, but they were happy with what they saw (by all accounts so far), and we have our fingers crossed. That would give us unlimited possibilities in New York, whereas right now, there are some limitations.

Keep checking back. If NY comes on line, then you can bet it will be hyped all over the forums!! lol

you can still get a license in NY, you just apparently can't do a residency there ( though people haev done it )

Residency is OK, but what matters ultimately is unrestricted license to practice medicine, and that is no problem in New York.

Ny accreditation will allow AUC students do do more than the minimal number of clinical rotation weeks currently allowed there. It will also allow grads to "officially" do residency there.

Ross and SGU were grandfathered in before these rule changes took place ( to screw off shore schools
In reality, it means less about site visits and more about greasing the palm of some bureaucratic flunky making 40K/yr to get their phoney blessing.

    Re: AUC vs Saba

Sounds good. I have heard all the stuff about not being able to do a residency there, but from what I understand (albeit, this is NOT directly from the NY State Dept of Health, which is where all real info should come from) you can ONLY do a residency there if you haven't done more than the maximum number of clinical rotations there, something like 12 weeks or so. I dunno.

Also, the same rumor exists in Texas, that if you do ANY clinicals in Texas, you can't do a residency there or practice there. Again, what I have found out in researching (again, NOT official, don't stake your license on it) you have to do a neurology elective in your clinicals in order to be licensed in TX. this is not a problem for me, as I plan on a neuro elective anyways, but many people who aren't interested in it wouldn't do it, then when they aplied, they would be denied based on that. I don't know how you can go about doing a clinical rotation post-graduation from med school, but I am sure some kind of accomodations exist. Obviously, we have several AUC grads IN TX right now, so I am sure they could shed more light on the situation.

The bottom line is, and it has been stated I don't know how many times, when in doubt, check with the State Dept of Health in the state in question! I am from Oklahoma, so Texas might be a good option for me, though I don't have much desire to go to NY. That might change if I were to have an opportunity to go to a really good program there, tho! lol

So check it all out, and make sure you know what you are getting into, just don't take every word of gossip you hear on the internet or from dissatisfied grads/transfer students as gospel.

    Good luck!

    Re: AUC vs Saba

that law about Texas still stands, albeit a stupid law. In my interview for SGU the interviewer said a friend of his did an elective rotation at UTSW and was denied getting licensure. The guy has been thinking about suing Texas to be able to get licensure in Texas since they guy is also a lawyer.

There are some grads in Texas, but from what I can tell there aren't many. When looking at many of the residency placements for Ross, SGU and SABA I dont see very many listings for Texas.

Personally, my father met an AUC grad recently and asked him about what he thought since he knew I was applying there. He said he had a very difficult time with Texas.

Its possible but not all that common.
