You all probably don't really care too much, but I am very happy.
Yesterday was my last day as a resident![]()
I start July 1 with a private practice, and additionally will be a teaching attending at an AUC/Ross Core site. I may see some of you come through.
It seems like a lifetime ago that I hit the island. I remember being concerned about all the same rumors that are still flying around:
I thought the boards would be impossible to pass, beacuse the teachers never taught board oriented material- I went to every class, took good notes, studied those notes for the exams, and just did review questions for Step 1 prep. I did fine.
I thought nobody really got US clinicals- I did all my clinicals in the US, straight through, no problems.
I thought residency was tough to get- I signed in April 99 for July 2000
I thought it would be tough to get a job when I was done- I had hard time choosing between the 3 offers I had within the first month of starting my 3rd year of IM residency.
The classmates that I have kept in touch with have similar situations. Many are going on to good fellowships (Derm, Critical care etc.) Others have good jobs in their respective fields. I know you don't always get the information that you need to put your minds at ease, but you will find that in the end everyting falls into place. My best advice is to work hard, be polite, but be persistant, and enjoy yourself as much as you can. Things don't get easier as you go along, but definately get more fun. I hope you all don't mind my posting this, I'm just happy :-flasing G
