    Finally Finished

You all probably don't really care too much, but I am very happy.

Yesterday was my last day as a resident

I start July 1 with a private practice, and additionally will be a teaching attending at an AUC/Ross Core site. I may see some of you come through.

It seems like a lifetime ago that I hit the island. I remember being concerned about all the same rumors that are still flying around:

I thought the boards would be impossible to pass, beacuse the teachers never taught board oriented material- I went to every class, took good notes, studied those notes for the exams, and just did review questions for Step 1 prep. I did fine.

I thought nobody really got US clinicals- I did all my clinicals in the US, straight through, no problems.

I thought residency was tough to get- I signed in April 99 for July 2000

I thought it would be tough to get a job when I was done- I had hard time choosing between the 3 offers I had within the first month of starting my 3rd year of IM residency.

The classmates that I have kept in touch with have similar situations. Many are going on to good fellowships (Derm, Critical care etc.) Others have good jobs in their respective fields. I know you don't always get the information that you need to put your minds at ease, but you will find that in the end everyting falls into place. My best advice is to work hard, be polite, but be persistant, and enjoy yourself as much as you can. Things don't get easier as you go along, but definately get more fun. I hope you all don't mind my posting this, I'm just happy :-flasing G

    All da money

Well, gotta start planning for retirement. Gotta max out the 401K, then I gotta start saving for college for the young'uns...according to my wife there are more coming soon (TBA), then I have to pay off those pesky loans, and that mortgage. Have some credit cards that I did some damage with over the course of residency, mostly baby stuff...

After all that I think I'm gonna borrow some money from someone and have a beer. G

Now, go get some sleep. Nobody wants a tired doctor looking after them when they are trying to get some narcotics.

Doctor, Doctor <=== Anybody remember this sitcom?

    Congrats, you deserve it.

(does sucking up to you 2-3 years ahead of time work?)

Finally beat Super Mario Bros within 7 mins.

    Congrats Dr. Grimm!

I guess it's fitting that you are finishing as I am finally starting. Thanks for your help and guidance throughout the whole process. I will drink a "tiny Heinie" in your honor. Please don't forget about us down here. Keep in touch on the boards.8)

    Best of Luck to You!

    congrats George!!!!!!!!!!1

I still remember reading your tales as an intern!

Enjoy the few days off, and then enjoy the freedom of being an attending. It's a lot more fun, even if it's a little scary at times. Don't hesitate to curbside your partners.
I remember we talked about the learning curve, the first few months as a resident.
As I finish my first year as an attending, I look back and see a learning curve aslmost as steep which surprises me, but you really do learn a lot once you are making all of your own decisions.

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy being labeled " Rich" by liberal democrats....as you work 60 hr+ weeks

    Dr. Durst, congratulations!!!

I am fairly new to the fora here, but I have read many of your posts.
I find you to have the quality that most people look for in a physician: wisdom.

I can certainly imagine how happy you must be!!! It's been a long, hard haul, and you've made the grade

You are an inspiration to us all...

May your days as a physician continue to bring you ever-increasing happiness.

    heart

PS - I love your avator, and the .sig you use with it! A stuffy doctor, I am sure you are NOT!
