510 points If your GPA is under 3.0, then they will start to look at your app harder, from my understanding. This is the only time they will really look at MCATs, either, I think. But there are people here who have told me their friends were rejected.

last year we were told that they typically get 800 to 1000 applications per year for around 300 slots so it seems that there are plenty of people who get rejections.
anatomy pimp
except for the fact that most of those 800 applicants probabaly also applied to at least SGU and Ross also. So, how many of them actually wanted to attend AUC if they were admitted to say.. the harvard of the carribean![]()
I don't know, but personally I think the caliber of education at AUC is continually improving. Once again, if St. George's is the Harvard of the Caribbean, then I suppose that makes AUC either a Yale or Johns Hopkins...not too bad for the tuition/scenery/education as compared to Dominica or Grenada, no?except for the fact that most of those 800 applicants probabaly also applied to at least SGU and Ross also. So, how many of them actually wanted to attend AUC if they were admitted to say.. the harvard of the carribean![]()

Deja Vu. Didn't I read this post in another forum on Valuemd?
Finally beat Super Mario Bros within 7 mins.
To any U.S. school, they will usually recieve something like 5000 applicaitons for about 100 spots. So if you want to look it like that, that means that only 2 % of people who apply to the school got in. This may be true, but a whole bunch of those applicants went to other schools.
The actual acceptance rate into U.S. medical school is around 45%.
So, if you say that there was 1000 applicants for 300 spots, those 700 may have chosen U.S. , SGU, Ross, or any of hte other millions schools you can apply to in the world.
I dont' know why I write these posts that sound like I don't like AUC. I want to go to AUC! Let's just not pretend that it is very hard to get into.
510 points I think MEIO is FOS when they say they get 1000 apps for 300 spots.... if they could fill each class with 180 caliber students, I think they would. Like I said... FOS.
As for the 'Harvard of the Caribbean', that is such a crock of... well, never mind. Suffice it to say I could have gotten into any Carib med school, and several US schools without trouble, but I decided on AUC without even straining my brain. SGU was ruled out in about 5 minutes flat!lol Anytime I hear that "Harvard of the Caribbean" crap, I just wanna puke or laugh or both at the same time (dangerous, eh!?). You don't have to be that great to get into SGU, either, so don't let any of 'em tell you how wonderful they are as they pat themselves on the back. I have seen some of the docs they have put out, and trust me, they ain't anything special compared to anyone else. They have their fair share of morons, just like any other school. They just all bleat and holler a little louder than everyone else.... my theory is, when you spend that much money on something, you want to fell like it's the best thing going!

Don't get me wrong, it's a quality school, but they ain't got nothin' that made me look twice.![]()

No, I don't think it's hard to get into AUC (or Ross, or any other St. Elswhere...). It's not getting in that's difficult, but staying there and succeding which is the real challenge. The system is such that those who shouldn't be there in the first place get weeded out and sent home packing almost immediately. If not, other mechanisms exist such as shelf exams and the USMLE which will filter out the candidates who can't cut the mustard. Again, the caribbean is exactly opposite the US Schools in that they take practically everyone and matriculate those who possess the attributes necessary to succeed in that type of environment. In the US, they take only the select few and matriculate them as MDs, even though some of them shouldn't be there in the first place.

i got wait listed for seotember at a US school, my advisor said the acceptance rate at US schools averages 12-17% hell if it was 45% i could have gotten in easy since i was fairly competitive...hehe who cares once you are in somewhere just try to make it through. sgu is way overpriced
